Nine months after he was diagnosed with cancer, Cronulla Sharks prop forward Johnny Mannah is preparing to return to play this Saturday.
Mannah, 20, was found to have contracted lymphoma last year, after doctors discovered a "hot spot'' on his back.
With his future in doubt, Mannah was put on an immediate course of chemotherapy.
In February this year, just before his last treatment course finished, Mannah told the
Leader that he "would return to footy''.
"I've been riding a bike and doing light workouts and I'm getting ready to do more training,'' he said.
And the 108kg forward, brother of Parramatta forward Tim Mannah, added: "And I have not lost any weight at all.''
He increased his training last month, and surprised trainers and team-mates with his efforts last week when he asked to be chosen in Cronulla's NSW Cup side, which plays Cup leaders Balmain at Henson Park on Saturday afternoon.
This afternoon he told officials: "I'm raring to go...if I feel this good I'll definitely be playing Saturday''
Also listed to play in Cronulla's NSW Cup side is fellow ex-Parramatta forward Josh Cordoba and centre Ben Pommeroy, who have had lengthy stays on the sideline with injuries.
