i doubt it , he will still be eligible for SG ball next season, will prob play SG then find his way into the NYC side, and from then on its up to him if he peforms he may get a shot but i thinke he may be a couple of years off, although he is a fantastic player

NYC v Panthers

John Mannah #10
- Great size and work rate.
- Scored 3 tries, I only remember the 2, 1 was in Panthers 10 and he carries 3 players over the line to score, and the 2nd was about 25 m out from Panthers line, dummy to his left, straightened up, busted the line and scored a very good solo try.
- Played about 40-45 mins, with a good off season getting even stronger and fitter he may be pushing FG with us.
- Parra's best forward for mine.

In a league of their own: Jon (above) and Tim Mannah (below) poster boys for a better league.

zwhvki.jpg

Rugby league hasn't lacked for headlines all season, not when the game has been going set-for-set atrocities with the AFL.

Since Ben Cousins set his sizzling standard, the greatest game of all has risen infamously to the challenge in this its centenary year.

Rugby league doesn't need headlines it needs poster boys, but are there any role models for the kiddies who deserve headlines?

Indeed, they exist.

Step up, Parramatta's Mannah brothers, Jon and Tim.

The Toyota Cup players could step straight out from a non-player-managers casting room they've got the lot.

First, the strapping forwards are successful footballers.

Jon has been poached by Cronulla for next year ironically, Greg Bird's home and Toyota Cup captain Tim has already made Parramatta's NRL training squad.

More important, their poster attraction goes beyond football.

The Mannahs are both studying for tertiary degrees and their social lives are intertwined with their church.

"There's a lot more to life than football,'' Tim Mannah said of keeping a separation, so the game didn't dominate their lives.

"When we're not at training, we try to avoid football.''

Tim, 20, is in the third year of a five-year sports business degree.

Jon, 19, has been in the first year of an electrical engineering degree at UTS Sydney.

He's been driving a milk truck three mornings a week to support himself while studying.

"I'd start at 4am or on a late morning, 5.30am-6am delivering milk in the inner city,'' he said.

Electrical engineering? You'd have to be a bit of a whiz at maths and science? Correct.

"I like maths and I like working with my hands,'' Jon said.

"It's been hard to juggle the time, studying and training four days a week and concentrating on football.''

Jon Mannah has now taken a rest for a semester and has also been offered an apprenticeship as an electrician.

He has a decision to make.

Should he continue studying at UTS, defer his degree and take the apprenticeship, or concentrate on football?

Mannah said whatever his decision, he would work on post-football qualifications.

It's just the same for older brother Tim.

"I'm in the third year of a five-year degree and took advantage of the initial help Parramatta gives,'' he said.

"It's good to take a break from football.

"I found I could combine both the study and football when I trained with the NRL squad in the off-season.

"My father Fred has a strong work ethic and both our parents encouraged us and said if you worked hard and tried your best, you achieved.''

In this blighted centenary it can be forgotten that for much of the game's history, its participants had to work hard as well as achieve as footballers.

Yes, the Mannahs have manners and meet the criteria image makers dream of.

Dare it be said: rugby league would wish there were more Mannahs from heaven.

Loyalties in the Mannah household will be divided when the two Mannah boys play their first competitive game of Rugby League against each other.

The Sharks and the Eels caught up with both of the boys to find out who mum and dad will be barracking for and what sledges they have planned when they come face to face.

WEEKEND WARRIOR: JOHNNY MANNAH

YOU played against your brother, Tim, for the first time in the Cronulla-Parramatta game - and the first time you tackled him, you gave him a wedgie! Sure did. I was in a perfect position to do it the first time I hit him in a tackle. I started the game, and Tim came off the bench, but we were still out there together for a while so we ran into each other a few times.

Was it weird, or fun, playing against him?
A bit of both. We had a bit of fun out there, but it was still strange to see him on the opposite side of the field in an NRL game.

The Sharks finally won a game. The dressing room must have been on fire afterwards. It exploded. It was one of the best feelings ever. It was the first victory in an NRL game for me, so it was a phenomenal feeling.

What is it like at the family home in the wake of the game? Mixed emotions. Everyone's feeling good for me, but a bit sad for Timmy. But, at the end of the day, someone had to win and someone had to lose.

He is a big unit is he the younger brother?

Yer Tim is 21 and Johnny 19.
I thought Johnny played great on Saturday night, his best game in the NRL by far. Made metres after the hit, tackled hard and searched for hit ups.

Going on Saturday's game alone I reckon we got the better brother.

Watching the replay this arvo and Johnny had a great game. Very good buy. Monster of a lad I think he's bigger than Selmes and certainly a lot more mobile.

He is also only 19 still alot of growing to do there. One big off season of growing under his belt he could be as big as selmes, but with the heart.
