At 650k I would be saving the money.

Yes he is quality when the team is making yardage and he has room for his barnstorming runs.

But the good teams are beating up on the current forward pack anyway.

I think 650k would be better spent going towards a gun prop.

Would make the rest of the backline more potent as well.

Ramien is good and I am hoping he stays but 650k seems too much considering what else the team requires.
You can't underestimate the work both he and Sifa do coming out of our end, can't think of many centre pairings that are better in that area.

He's supposedly on 500k now. With the cap going up 18% that takes him to 590k.

650k isn't that much extra relatively speaking.

60k isn't much extra but IMO Jesse really only played to the level of his pay check last year.

Like Blix I'm more worried about our forwards. Iro makes plenty of metres too.

I thought he had a very good year.

If he cuts out the brain explosions he'll be elite imo.

Ramiens numbers are good, but $650k is getting to elite, game breaking centre money. I didn't see that last year and I don't see him getting there this year either. Hope to be proven wrong, of course

We'd be a different team without him but I don't think a worse one.

If he did go, we'd likely sign Frizell and make him part of the games best centre pairings anyway...

Taking into account the new cap. I respectfully disagree

In your head, rent free
that new cap doesnt give us 2 mil to play with though, we have a **** tonne of clauses which would see us be about the same as before in terms of cap availability

All good to disagree, just trying to understand what you are saying though.

You disagree that 650k wouldn’t be better off spent in the current sharks lineup on a quality prop?

For mine 650-700k is absolute top top money he could attain that a Newcastle or west tigers would chuck at him purely as no one wants to go there to watch their career die.

If Cronulla starts paying overs like this there will be holes everywhere else

No, but it bumps him up to 590k straight away. An extra 60k isn't much.

As I said earlier, I'd prefer him to lost the brain farts though.

That’s an interesting one

For starters do you really think he’d go back there?

But also what’s your theory on their backline?
Young Best Gagai Marzhew is already pretty solid I’d say. Are you suggesting they should move Gagai to fullback sign Ramien and that’s how they play Ponga at 6 (in 2024)?
Or they could not retain Young and move Gagai to wing I suppose

Nuh don’t think he will go back there.

My point though is that the bottom dwellers need to pay extra to acquire players as they are less desirable.

The bottom dwellers would be offered significantly more for the same player as compared to a Penrith for example.

If Ramien is trying to play off what we are offering against one of these horrible teams I would be hoping Cronulla wouldn’t be matching

Okay, thought Newy seemed like an oddly specific choice given the player.

From main articles floating around I think Tigers and Dolphs are linked to him

Best is starting to build quite the injury history and not really living up to the hype - potential remains I guess ..

True but probably on decent coin and signed for next two years. Be tough to buy an expensive player over the top of that. They have okay fills ins

He’s a second rower but Jones did a number on us filling in there a couple years back

I was wondering at first why I didn't remember hearing of a player with such a long weird name.

Ramien is the one player on the Sharks who may not actually get the 18% raise automatically. Assuming he does though, you're right - an increase of $60k would be a pretty small pay bump.

Based on what has been reported, $650k/year would put him in line with well-paid guys like Gagai and Suli, but still well below the highest paid centres (Holmes, Manu, Lomax and Staggs).

Yep and personally I'd be taking him ahead of Again and Suli every day of the week.

Me too... except for if you could keep Gagai toggled to 'Origin mode'

Suli actually was pretty good for Dragons, like Talakai (except when he went beast mode) he made a lot of meters for them. But we have Talakai on the other side already doing extra meters so def wouldn't make Suli attractive. And I just think Ramien is better than Suli anyway.

Like you I was very unhappy with what we paid him to come back but the last two years he's shown us what he can do and he does it consistently now

Sure, I'd rather pay a bit less but 650k isn't super high with the new cap. As Burger points out it puts him second tier amongst centres which is fair.
