shocked it's only a fine. good news though he's had a bit of a disruptive year in and out of the team and we don't need even more squad changes (even if it's normal for us at this point)

he isn't perfect but at least he is a genuine centre that takes energy out of the opposition and his form is decent at present. practice the draw and pass is a must though then defense will be in 2 minds as well. ramien seems to prefer to get 3 defenders around him and then try force the offload (with mixed success)

our other centre options just don't bring the impact Jesse does week to week even if it's sometimes a negative impact teams arn't going to be scared of tackling or getting tackled by chambers or tracey

maybe we can leak a rumour about Duges catching covid and send him out there with a poorly fitting mask on

Think he's been playing some really good footy the last month or so. Lot of tackle breaks, defending well.

He needs work in setting up his winger and what to do when he makes a break but otherwise he's looking good.

It’s his last year next year, isn’t it? He’s going to be an absolute weapon looking for that new contract.

He signed for 4 years, this is year 2

Which makes his improvements even better and suggests he has another “next level” to go to (hopefully).
Has some things to work on but I think he could be an extremely good long term centre for us.
Shame about “you know who”.

As a lot of other posters have mentioned, he needs to be made aware that a try assist is as good as a scoring yourself, and a hell of a lot better than hogging the ball and murdering a try.

Wouldn't mind seeing that little trick play on the try line when the hooker turns it in for Ramien to crash over. Feel like I've hardly seen it this year but he was great at doing it before he went to the Knights.

Maybe saving it for a rainy day

every time we try a line run or flat ball with him he seems to spill it these days (sometimes bad passes to him and sometimes they are just too hot to handle under pressure) so know we give him the early ball well before the line and let him do as he pleases

but the basic Corey Hughes special inside out ball from dummy half famous Cronulla pet play yea that might be worth more of a crack

Interesting analysis from Rugby League Eye Test this week. He graphed all of the centres and back rowers in the NRL to see who has the lowest ratio of passes to runs. Despite the perception on Ramien, he actually passes a lot more than most.

Wilton actually has the worst ratio for a back rower, which is understandable. He's still a rookie and would be playing fairly conservatively.

Bottom right = blokes who run a lot and rarely pass
Top left = blokes who pass a lot

The table doesn't include games played in other positions (e.g. Tracey at wing, Wilton in the middle)

Wonder if it is pure passes or includes offloads

Includes offloads I believe.

Also btw, I can't remember what thread we were talking about "try contributions"... I've looked in to that. It's a stat that only exists for Fox Sports SuperCoach (fantasy). They introduced it to credit players who throw the last pass in a try, but don't get the try assist. e.g. Turbo beats 4 players, offloads to Parker, who draws the fullback and passes to to Garrick. In this case someone makes a judgement call that Turbo would get the TA and Parker would get the TC, since Turbo did "more" to create the try.

So, just like Try Assists, it's purely a fantasy stat that isn't really useful in determining how good someone is - but for TC's it's possible it could be used to show which centres are good at drawing and passing to their winger.

Just when you think there's nothing else they can do stats for - up pops this!

I have to admit, and no offense to you Burgo or Bort or anyone else that comes up with stats but they just totally bore me.

Too much information and overload IMO and I think they can sometimes give you the wrong impression about a player.

I just prefer to watch the game and see who is putting in and doing their best.

According to Fox, 3 new stats were introduced in the 2021 season, credited to fantasy football

All good mate. I agree that 90% of the stats recorded are pretty meaningless - and "try assists" is the most useless of all. I just thought it was interesting that we were seeing quite a lot of comments on here about Ramien not passing the footy enough, and then up pops someone with evidence to the contrary. This particular graph above the guy did in response to Dragons/Warriors fans whinging about Aitken never passing.

A lot of the stuff the EyeTest guy does is not based on individuals to show who is better/worse/etc. He does a lot of tracking of the game in general - ball in play, ptb speed, possession etc - refuting the BS line the NRL and the commentators keep giving us about the game being "faster, with more ball in play".

Thanks mate, appreciate all of that. Yes, the commentators work themselves into a frenzy about certain stats and it really doesn't mean a lot.

I guess coaches need to keep them but I would say that they put a certain emphasis on some more than others and definitely different to the commentary team.

Do you know what stats are most important to coaches?

Well TCs is about as useful as any other stat then, can give you some information but never with enough context to be 100% useful.

According to the fox stats Jesse's offloads are pretty bad with around 30% not being effective, much higher than many other centres, so the bad ones probably contribute a bit to the sense he doesn't pass

I think sometimes this can give people the wrong impression about a player too

All the NRL clubs collect these stats for a reason, but they utilise them primarily with video packages. They don't care that Rudolf has the most missed tackles in the nrl, but they can watch a video package of them and see that most of them he misses on his left side, or to footwork, or when he rushes up, or whatever
If you wanna grab out some clips for people to discus instead I'm more than happy to do that. Otherwise stats is just another discussion point to go alongside determining who or who is not "a footballer"
