Talakai is on 625k and Toby 650k
Further to my reply about this post a few days back, assuming the figure for Toby is correct it blows my mind that Moses Leota is on 675k.

To think we are only paying Toby -75k than Leota is getting from the panthers.
Don’t know about everyone else but I’d take Leota for 675k everyday of the week vs Toby on 600k.

Yes,
but clear case when “a new manager” is trying this sort of thing when their client is still contracted
Their client must agree with it.

As fans we may not like them, but I think they must be worth their 7% because nearly everyone in the game from players to coaches have them.

I’m not anti player managers.

I’m anti “new player manager” who starts making noise in the middle of a players current contract for their own benefit. Trying to move their new client to a new contact just to get their 7% (which they weren’t getting cos it was a previous mangers deal).

If you take on a player from another manager, then you negotiate a deal from within (old manager and player) for renumeration, otherwise, you suck it up until the current contract expires and then you get your pay day.
You don’t go making waves to get your player to shift cos you are missing out on the current (old) deal.

Yea I think it was a bit of both - ease Nikora back in while rewarding Billy

I think Billy was the more impactful player for us throughout the season

Nikora had some good moments but Burns just brought something we had been missing to the team

Burns isn't going to be elite or anything but not every player needs to be and being on a small contract helps with our cap
He's probably the closest thing we have had to a Sorro/Capewell type player in a bit
Agreed. Every team has at least one player who goes under the radar, gives 110% every game but gets none of the plaudits and does so for a fraction of the money.
Burns will likely become that player for the Sharks.
In terms of Nikora, with two years left on his current deal you would think the ball is in his court to justify his spot in the team and any future deal when Nov 1 rolls about in 2026. Whether that be with the Sharks or elsewhere.

I think you would probably find that the majority of that Panthers squad that have stayed the course throughout their Premiership run are taking significant unders on their respective deals: Leota, Sorensen, Martin etc
The same was true of the Storm’s supporting cast during the height of Smith/Cronk/Slater’s powers.
It’s the price some are willing to pay to remain part of a winning team.

Yeah I agree but he’s their best prop now, I look @ our squad, we supposedly have the same cap space as Storm, Broncos, Roosters, Panthers etc, we have no current SOO players, for me, those other teams I mentioned have an element of players taking less to be in the better team but equally, we have a element of players who are getting good sized contracts which reflect rep money who aren’t playing rep footy.

Ramien - Very ordinary this year, hopefully the rumours are true. On decent coin.
Nicho - the obvious one if you're talking about not playing rep footy.
BHU - yep paid too much given his output. Everyone was very happy when we extended him, though. Sounds like we're trying to fix this.

Anyone else? Hopefully both Ramien and BHU gone soon. Not sure it's as bad as you think.

Yeah eligibility is a big thing people forget. If AFB, Ronaldo, and Nikora are origin eligible they almost certainly play. Suddenly we have 3 origin players and we are allowed to win the comp again.
