I just read that the Sharks have snapped up a 16 year old frontrower from Parkes in central west NSW by the name of Jack Medlyn. He already weighs 100kg and they've put him on a scholarship. He has been a lifelong Roosters fan and rejected offers from the Roosters and Eels to join the Sharks. He'll attend several camps with teh Sharks next year while also doing his HSC.

Good work with the news as always Hammerhead.

The best part about this?
"rejected offers from the Roosters and Eels to join the Sharks"

Hopefully he will be a promising addition to the squad.

if he turns out to be any good hopefully we can keep him and not lose him to another club which seemed to happen a lot in the last couple of years

Going to be hard for any young front rower to consistently crack first grade considering we have Ross, Villa, Stapelton and Douglas who are mostly relatively young.

Add to that the possibility of O'Meley and those chances drop even more.

Yeah, but he's sixteen. Think of this as an investment in season 2010.

I wonder how many Rapers fans are still singin his praises now we have had a lot more positive things happening at the club.

Sure, it's a good thing that Ricky appears to be attracting young blokes like this to the club but let's not get too carried away just yet, let's wait until after the first game at least! And let's not forget that some positive things happened while Raper was in charge as well, for example the introduction of guys like Williams, Douglas and Mitch Brown into first grade, all no doubt stars of the future.

Yes true, I am just don't remember our off seasons with Raper being as eventful or talked about.

Exactly, there seems to be a heck of a lot more anticipation surrounding the coming season than is usually the case. Even on this site you can feel a real buzz of excitement with Ricky already putting his own stamp on things. I just hope that we can all give him a chance and don't expect miracles from his first season in charge.

i for one arent expecting 2 much i just want 2 play finals football again and be competitive in all games this season not just against the easy beats.... If the board are to sack ricky b4 his contract ends they all deserve 2 be shot. we need 2 give coaches 3-4 season to develop a cultuer at the club not just kick em out after 2 years

Right on the money Sharkiesfreak, we need some stability around this joint for a change...and if the board won't allow that to happen, then it is they who must step aside.
