I guess the question is would you actually want Wade as coverage over Tracey? On the bench or as 18th man?
Yeah I'd take Tracey. Pushing Talakai to the second row mid game is better than Nikora/Wilton to centre. Tracey gives you more coverage of positions too. I still think Wade will be there somewhere though.

Middle + injury cover for 6, 7, 11, 12, and 2-5 too if you move one of the back rowers out to centres.

Conversation isn't really "Wade versus another player". It is "4 forward bench versus 3 forwards and some injury cover". For the second option Trindall and (once healthy) Tracey also become part of the conversation.
I think Wade being a more legit middle if not needed to cover probably gives him the edge.
But I look forward to him playing middle and people saying we should be playing X instead, covering half and people saying we should have carried Trindall instead or pushing an edge to centre and people saying we should have had Tracey instead.

For covering 11, 12, 6, 7 - yes. I think Tracey is a decent 1-5 but a terrible half.
Tracey really does seem to make a mess of his shots at playing in the halves.
If you had Tracey and needed halves coverage, would you then put Brailey in and shift Cam to hooker? That's not horrible... maybe better than Wade in the halves

Sharks won the Premiership with most games played experience in history from memory. We still a pretty young side rebuilding somewhat. I thought Wade Grahams looked better in the trials than last yrs form. Bench for mine, over less experienced players, all else being equal.

Would definitely much rather Wade in the halves over Brailey.

If you had Tracey sitting there ready to go I guess you'd have to use him there.

If we have a bench utility it should be Wade. It’s about what he offers between the ears that gives him the edge over Trindall or Tracey.

But seeing this is the Williams thread I’ll add that Jack looked very good in the trial and his fast ptb’s will be a major bonus this year.

I’d rather a player pegged for utility value offers value if not needed to cover injury, so they can actually go do a job. Statistically they’re more likely to need to do a job and not actually be there to cover an injured player.

Graham offers that more imo, but also I want four forwards on the bench and feel there’s enough skill set in the team to cover an injury should it happen for the rest of the game.

100% would want Wade on the bench for the finals... but I'd rather give someone else a go during the season. That's the hardest part about his selection at the moment for me

McInnes is essentially our Utility on the bench. For me WIlliams should play ahead of Graham. Truth is there are always injuries and it will sort itself out.

Id prefer Colquhoun over either Wade or Williams
I think Williams definitely gets the jump over Colquhoun. He looked really good again in the trials. If our bench has McInnes, Williams and Kaufusi, we will absolutely demolish teams with quick play the balls and speed through the ruck.

Completely. Add a big bopper in either BHU or Hunt on the bench and our pack should be fairly strong.

If we get an injury in the outside backs - Wilton will go to centre and Wade slips into the left edge .

I don’t want Cam out on an edge again …

Williams could play edge in a pinch. But it does return you to the key bench question of whether or not to play a utility. I don't mind having one if they have a purpose in a game with no injuries, and they are the best player for that purpose. However, having one like Trindall last year, who would come on for 10 mins of lock, just to get him game time feels silly. You can argue that at least Wade may be more effective for 10-20 in the middle, but I'd still rather Williams play that role in most games tbh.

This bloke on an edge is not an option imo. He is terrible out there.
Mid game we might not have an option depending on line up but I would prefer to never start him there if we can avoid it. Realistically though he is probably edge 4 or 5 and maybe one further up if Wade wouldn't cover right.

Our shallowest position I'd say
