NOTORIOUS NRL hang-out Sapphire Suite is again the talk of league circles after its manager - former Dragons, Tigers and Sharks speedster Hassan Saleh - was glassed at the Kings Cross hot spot.

Sport Confidential can reveal Saleh needed over 100 stitches to his head and neck after being king-hit with a glass two weekends ago.

When contacted yesterday, Saleh said he was set upon without notice while working.

"I didn't see it coming. We were ejecting a patron and a bloke hit me with a glass from behind," he said.

Saleh was rushed to hospital following the attack and required extensive plastic surgery. Police have arrested a man suspected of being involved in the attack.

"I'm certainly not as good looking as I used to be," said Saleh. "I won't be able to work for a while and it looks like I will need a couple more rounds of plastic surgery."

Saleh has managed the Sapphire Suite since quitting football in 2004. His presence immediately made the club popular with NRL players, but also attracted colourful headlines after the likes of Benji Marshall and Reni Maitua found trouble there.

Saleh's injury is not the first suffered by his family while working. His father and Sapphire Suite owner Charlie was shot in the leg outside the venue two years ago.
