But it wasnt though. It wasnt a wooden spoon team on paper. Look at that forward pack, full of pros and experience. The fact that people thought Wayne wouldnt get the best out of these guys and finish them out of the wooden spoon spot was doubting Wayne imo.
I'd argue it was tbh. Unproven spine with a rookie/nsw cup half, and a fullback/hooker that hadn't excelled in their positions in grade.
An aging forward pack, who had been showing signs of lacking punch over the previous season. 3 outside backs who weren't playing first grade, and a second rower. Tom Gilbert was really their only signing that other teams would have been hanging for.

This is what makes it all the more incredible. To polish that turd, into a potential finals side is unbelievable. To say that it should have been seen takes away from how amazing it really is. This team should be at the bottom of the ladder, the fact that they aren't is what makes Bennet the undisputed GOAT.

Doing it with a QLD side to win 2 games is one thing, doing it over the course of a whole NRL season is just crazy.

Somewhat disagree. O’Sullivan has been underrated in his career because of his injuries, JMK showed glimpses at Canterbury that there was something there and who better to unlock that then Bennett. Katoa has been highly touted for a while and Penrith were filthy to lose him. The Hammer was a surprise at fullback, I thought he might have a good year at centre but he’s been solid as **** at the back.

I know average age of the forward pack was a little on the high side but none of those guys like the Bromwich’s and Kaufusi were washed up in anyway and those are the ideal guys to have in your pack when your limited in other areas and you need to be mentally and defensively strong.

I never saw them as a wooden spoon roster and thats been proven right. To be fair I didn’t think they’d be comfortably in the eight either, I saw more around the 9th-11th mark, maybe even a spot or two lower if they had a few injuries.

I agree with @CrazyMatt , didn’t see the Dolphins being a wooden spoon team. Had them marked at 13th, given the Storm players they signed and also Bennett factor.

They are overachieving though, definitely

I just checked and I put them at 15th haha
I respected Bennett but too many question marks about team especially given lack of chemistry. I thought they had the cattle in the forwards to keep a lot of games close but would lack the firepower to consistently score enough to actually win, especially given they never landed the marquee player - they are 5th for average points and have quite a bad defence! Definitely a miss from me.

Had Warriors 14th and Cowboys 6th, Eels 7th - they are my other most wrong ones currently although with how congested ladder is it doesn't take much for ladder to swing drastically and not yet halfway through season. Happy for the Cows in particular to stay where they are.

So you‘re a good judge then!
😉

My initial predictions are about on par with that too.

Had to check... have them at 12th. Feeling like that might be a little conservative now

How was feldts play the ball play on?

I'm tempted to make a "blatant referee mistakes" so we can keep track of just how bad they are

Didn't Simonsson just throw that pass 2 metres forward or am I seeing things?
