This is the first time I've created a thread - so if it's not worthy - or I'm doing it wrong then by all means tell me to bugger off.

With Gallen's most recent attempt to anoint himself as the greatest player to ever put on a Sharks jersey by belittling ET's playing record I was genuinely curious where most supporters stand.

Not that it is a competition (and it excludes others with maybe bigger claims Miller, Rogers, Pierce etc) but camp ET or camp Gallen?

Yes Rogers is the best by a long way. But out of those two it's ET by the length of 10 Flemington straights.

Gal wouldn't even be in my top 5. Et, Peachy, Rogers are the only ones i got to see play but im sure the oldies could mention another 2 to drop him back to 6th.

But ET to answer the question.

ET all the way! But also ahead of Gallen is Miller, Peachy and while I never saw them play Pierce and Bishop add IRL they were outstanding.

Not even close, ET for sure. Gal would be up there in regards to our best player though.

This whole thing of Gallen Vs ettingshausen is stupid. Both are club greats.

Gallen's comment keeps being taken completely out of context. The comment about position is due to the amount of tackling and "hard meters" which are made in the forwards compared to a winger or centre. Nothing to do with who means more to the club and is not Gallen saying he is more valuable. All he was trying to say was that he has played a lot of games for the club in a tough position...which is true. (particularity if you take into account all of the years we were **** house and broke)

Not really. Maybe when talking about a club legend he should name him rather than just referring to the player as an outside back or whatever he said. For someone who whinges about not getting the respect he deserves maybe he should start showing some himself.

Skillful players will always get the nod over and bash and barge type player.

Gallen's contributions however should not be belittled either. Both are fine players, the only difference being Gallen has a bigger mouth.

He needs to let his game do the talking and stop making comments that will erode his legacy.

It's a good thread Josho well done.

I'm an oldie so like others on here - the greatest ever Sharks player in any position was Steve Rogers. Tommy Bishop did a lot to instill some backbone in us and Greg Pierce was a great leader but no one lit up the crowd like Rogers did. Whenever he got the ball, you'd automatically jump out of your seat, you just knew something was going to happen. He had pace, swerve, the step and his defence was absolutly rock solid.

On the ET v Gallen scale, it's hard to compare them because they play in different positions. Yes Gal is tough and in the engine room but after a bit of a shaky start defence wise, ET became one of the most solid defenders you would see out in the backs. I remember many times some of the hits and tackles he would make were mind blowing. He could pick up an attacker and take him back 5 or 10 metres without anyone coming in to help him.
And in attack, there was nothing better than seeing him in the clear - not many could chase him down. When he first started I remember a game against Parra at Shark Park - Brett Kenny was a flier in those days and he got into the clear with no one in front of him. ET gave him 10 yards start and easily mowed him down. I knew then we had a champion player.

ET would be my pick for sure.

Quite ironic really.

Gallen does have a point though, considering how he plays, he has done well to have played so many games
