As you should be, he hasn't played a game yet! But there is still a place for the big units, especially if you can afford to run them in short stints. The smaller and more mobile others get, the easier it is to run over them.

I'd say gone are the days of Lolo/Hass like players playing 70-80, but you'd still want both those guys in your side on playing ability, not so much off field with Hass.

If everyone is doing the mobile fit forward thing that is who all those guys get used to defending too.
Suddenly the 125kg straight runner might be no chance of breaking the line but will certainly bend it and the extra 10cm and 20kg he has to throw around in the tackle make getting an arm free a lot easier...

We lack a lot of aggressive running from our edge players so I'm happy to pick it up in the middle for short stints.

I'm yet to be convinced by Franklin. Yes he is young and a big strong unit but the way the game has changed, it's not friendly to the big fellas.

I'm concerned at how he'll handle the speed of an NRL game.

Any thoughts of signing him to a 3 year extension is laughable.

Let's see how he goes in the top grade first - if he is selected of course!

a big strong heavy bloke running straight at you still needs to be tackled - just limit his minutes until he is up to pace with firsts incase he becomes a problem in defense or with his handling

if he has a good offload he will be a menace in the oppositions 10, especially if he can run the odd angle

getting hit by and lifting a couple bags of cement every set for the opposition is bound to expel some energy

Yep, will definitely be injuries so he'll get a run.

Maybe he gets a go when Woods is playing Origin.

Only if Woods identifies as female and even then it's a stretch

Someone will get injured mid-season and we’ll have Franklin fresh.

is that grocery store still around?

I'd be getting rid of him if he can't average 30m a hitup after a few games.

the standards and expectations on SF are tough but fair. a single game is more than enough to know if he is a gun or garbage. anymore time and he is just holding back the next front row whipping boi

Let's see where do I start?

Bold comment 1 - show me the video that proves this egg
Bold comment 2 - this is the big question isn't it?
Bold comment 3 - smartest thing you've said in this post
Bold comment 4 - I think you mean snaffled. :)
Bold comment 5 - Who do you mean The Storm, Manly, Broncos - egg I can't guess!! :lmao
Bold comment 6 - How do you know we haven't offered him any incentive to stay on?

In all seriousness egg, I do wish Franklin all the best and hope to God he carves up!
Good on you for being so passionate about his ability, just hope you are right. :)

Your lines of questioning are very bold, sir

I was actually going a bit easy on him tbh.

I like how those big boys can suck defenders into the middle and open things up out wide. We were really effective on the edges, so a boppa who can make the defence compress would give us even more space for our high flying finishers.

hehe

The most pleasing thing watching his highlights was his offload ability. Pretty skillful, more than just one string to his bow.

Hated playing against guys built like Frank

No hit zone on them, just had to throw yourself at them and hope you stuck

Defence is ****ed. Slug

Agree , wasn't that great .
Happy to judge after a few more games .
Seemed big distances between him AND the next defender each side of him .
Defence might be tighter packed around the ruck first grade
Was everywhere zapping energy
Time will tell

Lot of promise in his ball running but definitely needs to work on his off the ball work in defence. There was a bit of plodding when a tiny bit more effort was needed and got punished for it.

Was always only a prospect of a couple games off the bench this year. Some match fitness in NSW cup will do him good for later in the year to make his first grade debut.

You know you have those moments when you’ve given an opinion and everyone tells you to pull your head in.

I tell you the moment you’re vindicated is sweet.

Franklin Pele a loooooonnnnnnggggggg way off first grade.

No point in judging him after a few more games, can’t see how he’d improve his defence that quickly.
