I reckon people are reserving tickets for friends then after 24 hours they go back into the pool

Yep. There is an option to Reserve Tickets. It must send a link for others to buy. Holds it for 24 hours

if you want your mates to sit next to you AND you can buy up to 8 tickets
Just buy them all at once

I can't understand why Ticketek needs queues for events that maybe 40,000 people are going to, when Sportsbet was able to handle 12500 transactions/second on Melbourne Cup Day in 2015 (https://www.itnews.com.au/news/how-sportsbet-handled-12500-melbourne-cup-bets-per-second-412814). I know AFL Finals are also on, but they should be able to separate those.

Just trying to check ticket info again, and in a queue forever already. And AFL tickets are on sale same time as NRL.
