Dark Mode

So the Dark Mode option is now available as a forum option.

However, with the current customized theme, it doesn't look good.

I have added a second theme/style named "2026 Style". This is mostly based on the original/default style, with only a few customisations at this stage, and so should work better in Dark Mode.

You can choose the "2026 Style" by clicking on the below button.

And then choose which style you want to use:

If you choose "2026 Style", then you will see a Dark Mode option at the bottom. And as some of you have found, it may automatically enter dark mode, depending on your device/browser preferences.

I will probably move towards making the new style as the default.

I don't use Dark Mode that much myself, so any suggestions on the colours etc are welcome.

Could I request you work on the post quality next? Quite a few are garbled and incomprehensible. Cheers mate!

Not bad. Can’t cop that orange highlight though – feels very Tigers. It doesn’t have to be Sharkey blue but personally I would make it some sort of blue. I also think you would get away with (and immensely please @Addy) using some grey like the social media logos down the bottom are in if you feel that gets a bit too heavy on the blue. Have you experimented with a bit of a softer black for the background? Sounds weird but it feels a little bright.

Thanks yeah even though I’m using basically the default dark mode, I think it could be more readable. So I’ll take this on board when I look at it again
 
I’ve been using it
I’d love to see the threads with unread messages stand out a bit more vs those with read ones - but may not be viable to change beyond just being bold

Kinda feels more like arcade mode. I think Shark Park Style is actually softer and more pleasant to read.

I've made the colours on the 2026 style a little more neutral (light blues instead of oranges).

And reduced the Dark Mode contrast a little between the black background/white text.
  • Background: Avoid pure black (\(\#000000\)) because the high contrast with white text can be harsh. Instead, use a dark grey, such as the recommended \(121212\) from Google's Material Design, which is softer on the eyes and allows for subtle shadows.
    Text: Use a light grey (e.g., \(E0E0E0\)) or off-white for text instead of pure white to further reduce eye strain.

Still open to any feedback. It's difficult due to the fact it will differ between devices/screen brightness etc.

I still find it a bit garish.

Dark doesn’t mean black. What about some dark dull blues:

I've changed the main background color from #121212 to #273c51 as you listed. The colors always appear different between screenshots/devices though.

The other option I tried was #2F3142 and that could be another option. You can see it in the new "Premiers 2016" style available from the Style Picker.

Let me know if you think if either of these are an improvement or not

I think they are both an improvement on the black, much easier on the eye. Having a quick look at each I think I prefer Premiers 2016 style but 2026 style might be growing on me.

Two solid options for people who want dark mode though I think, or just a different style.

EDIT: Nah, definitely prefer Premiers 2016.

Thanks yeah I prefer that background color too, I’ll wait for a little more feedback but think I may update both to look like that
