I believe Irvine meant to say:

"...80k short of the NRL Cap and 70k short of the 2nd tier..."

and NOT

"...80% of the NRL of the Cap...".

I suspect that it was just a regrettable slip of the tongue.

That's the way it looks to me too, given the playing roster. But I can't trust these suits anymore and with Stuart's words fresh in my mind, I wasn't too sure if he did just mispeak. There also seems to be an emphasis on "we will be spending the cap next year" as though it were in contrast to this year.

On the flip side an extra 800k to sign new players would have been nice too.

I'm going down to the AGM tonight.

If I get a chance, I'll ask Irvine to clarify what he meant to say.

I'm really looking forward to getting past all of this stuff and getting on with focusing on the future.

Hopefully, there might be some extra light shone on future directions at tonight's AGM.

100% correct Fitz. Had another listen and sounded like a slip. Geez I'm impressed by the way he interviewed and can't wait to hear him on Talking Sport soon.

Did anyone hear Phantom on Talking Sport after Irvine was on it? Did Cronulla cut junior ref funding this year? If yes, not a good PR thing to do.

what news did they show the blow up

1. Irvine said that it wasn't in front of the entire team.
2. Irvine said that after a loss maybe he should of kept scarce but wanted to tell Ricky that he thought the team played well.
3. As a people manager myself I will never, ever have a dispute with a senior manager in front of my staff. So if Ricky did, it's poor form and bad leadership on his behalf and maybe he's not the man I thought he was.

My 2 cents worth on the supposed 'blow-up'...

It takes a much bigger man to walk into a LOSING dressing room than a winning one.

Irvine might reckon it was bad judgement on his part, but he's been welcomed in those sheds win lose or draw for over 15 years. He was one of the few people allowed to remain in there after it'd been cleared of media and hangers-on by Lang, Anderson, Raper and even Stuart, long before DI became a board member.

I'll tell you something else, too...He'll be welcome in there long after Ricky Stuart is just a lingering smell of linament.

If it's good enough to allow him in there to say 'well done' on behalf of the board after a win, it's damn well good enough to welcome him in there after a loss, to accept the handshake he offers and to accept his commiserations for the loss, but also his praise for the obvious effort put in by the whole footy dept.

What has the 'blow up' done, especially after DI took it all on the chin tonight and made light of himself and the incident? It's revealed Stuart to be the precious princess many people in league circles have always known him to be.

Only one person has come out of this looking stupid, and it ain't DI.

Josho,

I managed to have a quick chat with Irvine last night, and yes... it was a slip of the tongue - he did mean to say 80k and not 80%.

Cheers
