Have finished listening to the Fisk one. Wasn't bad actually, paints a good picture of the future.

Considering how forcefully Irvine denied contacting Nathan Brown, you have to wonder why Fisk was trying to stir that up in the middle of his interview.

But like Mark says it was a reassuring interview, particularly the end.

I suggest everyone with a spare 20 mins should listen to these.

On Fisk:
- Painted himself as a bit of a martyr... how players, fans, ex-players and sponsors had come up to him last night at the game and asked him to reconsider.
- Good to hear about the stability of the club. He was firm on that.
- Mentioned licensing and membership as areas where the club needs to improve, and generating more revenue from the Stadium by using it all year round.
- Clearly had a disagreement with Irvine. That is the crux of the matter.

- Clearly had a disagreement with Irvine. That is the crux of the matter.

What disappointed me was that nobody asked them what the disagreements were actually over.

The closest we came was an implication from Irvine that their views differed due to a difference possibly arising from opposing 'generational' viewpoints.

Over the last couple of days, various people are now claiming that Fisk wanted to move us to the CC; is this really what the difference of opinion was about? Neither Fisk nor Irvine implied this in their interviews.

I thought Irvine spoke well.

- Said we're spending 80% of the cap this year, but hinted at more signings before June 30.
- Said we have a lot of backended deals which means there'll be some juggling for Flano to do next year but that we will spend the full cap next year.
- Talked about his path to the Chairperson-ship, and how he had the full support of the board and was in fact the 'mouthpiece' of the board.
- Denied having had any contact of any sort with Brown.

Yeah, everyone listen to these. You basically get either side of the story.

Oh yeah- it sounds like Ricky was pretty offended that Brown was approached, but Irvine denied doing any such thing. Leads me to think there were/are rats causing trouble.

Hey hey all. Firstly thanks to the ABC for interviewing both Fisk and Irvine. Unlike other outlets and forms of media they have done the right thing. As a fan I feel a lot more comfortable about the club and it's status than I did a few days ago. I personally think the club is in good hands.

And yes that is my noggin to the left. I though **** it. You know I'm Tony, you know I'm a sharks supporter so I decided to have the guts to put a face to a name for you all!!!

You need to listen to the Fisk then Irvine to get a full understanding.

I picked up many other things but the main ones are Irvine doesn't come across as being a liar.

The board is a professional group they have certain expectations to bring this club into the future if those expectations are not being met then we keep looking for a person that can meet those expectations.

it seems like we have the right team for the job behind the scenes, getting results on the field is the next step, and its coming.

I was extremely impressed by the way that Irvine spoke.

What I’m getting out of this is that Ricky and Richard aren’t doing themselves any favours over how they’re conducting themselves. And a couple of Richard’s ex colleagues on 2UE aren’t helping him. One positive point I will make about Richard is that he did say in another interview that people have to give Irvine a bit of slack as he is new into all of this.

At the end of the day if you are leaving a job because of another individual that’s your choice and not something that should be aired publicly.

Once again if the ABC didn’t have both of them on we wouldn’t be getting a good balance as to what is happening with the Sharks. It’s a pity other forms of media and outlets haven’t offered the same courtesy to Irvine.

"RICKY STUART has put Cronulla's awful run into perspective by admitting the club's precarious financial position had forced it to save money on recruitment and the Sharks would not spend the $4.1 million allowed under the salary cap this year..."

<EDITED>

...''I asked them that and they said they'd be spending the cap,'' Gallen said. ''I hope they're spending it. As far as I know they are.

''That was one thing I asked them. From what they told me and what I expect and what I know, we're going to compete on the field and they're going to get the best possible players they can.''

Richard Fisk:
''We are spending all of our NRL salary cap but we have limited spending for this season in the Toyota Cup and the NSW Cup,''

Damian Irivne:

"This year we remain spending the cap, although I think, and don't quote me exactly on these figures, but approximately 80% short of the NRL cap. And about another 70 thousand, I think, at last count, in the second-tier cap we are below the cap.

http://www.abc.net.au/news/audio/2010/05/30/2913175.htm
What does Irivne mean by 80%? Did he mean to say we are 80k short of the cap - or are we only spending 80% of the cap?! If so we are still being fed porky pies by the club.

According to Irivne we are 70k below the second tier - that would be consistent with Fisk's statements. However, if we are only at 80% of the first-tier 4.1M NRL cap - then that is 820k below the cap! 820k is not a work in progress as Irvine later describes it. (That is a ***** load of space for rep bonuses or mid-season signings)

If the club has to save money on the cap for long term survival, so be it. But they need to be up front with not only the fans but also the players. I'm over the boardroom incompetence hindering on-field success.

I thin he just misspoke... possibly meant we are spending 80% of the second tier salary cap of $250-300K.

We are spending to the max. If you listen closely he explains the 80%. I’m at work and don’t have the time to drill into it at the moment. I'll have a crack tonight to explain it if someone else hasn’t before hand.

I believe Irvine meant to say:

"...80k short of the NRL Cap and 70k short of the 2nd tier..."

and NOT

"...80% of the NRL of the Cap...".

I suspect that it was just a regrettable slip of the tongue.
