Hunt is unavailable
Williams is unavailable
Graham will probably be unavailable
BHU might be unavailable

… and McInnes is not a good hooker. Borderline NRL player at 9.

Oh - for sure. Can’t say what the reason was. Just pointing out at that during the “problem period” where it all went to ****, Dale wasn’t on the field.

Cam’s minutes are pretty much spot on btw. I did some very detailed work last year on his minutes and output. When he plays longer he is still a defensive workhorse but his attacking output drops a bit. Fitz keeps him at 55-60 most weeks for a reason.
Can Mciness play an edge. Ignore wether we need him to or not, would it suit him?

The other thing I wonder is do we in fact want dale and Cam on the field at the same time more often. So dale goes into prop rotation and Jack rotates with Cam. Also jack and cam seem to be similiar players in terms of what they offer in attack. They both speed up the ptb in the middle and create fast, burrowing penetration, where dale's best attribute is defense.

Maybe there was another issue this week though. Cam only playing 29 minutes seems a waste. I agree 55-60 is ideal.

Yeah seems low to me too

We need more Dale in the second half too, he did 29 mins straight, then only 13 in the second half.
Should swap him for Cam after about 20 do Cam for 30ish then get Dale back on at lock in second half.
Cam can do another stint at the end.

I think Cam could play the edge and be good at it given time. In a small sample size (1 game vs Storm) last year though he was pretty bad.

I agree on Cam/Jack. I think both play like small props who are mobile in defence. Quick ptbs and the odd tip-on. Dale uses the ball at the line a lot more than those two. Plays way more like what you want from your "lock". Best combo imo is one big prop, one mobile prop, and a lock who can use the ball.

cam 29
dale 42

toby 50

doesnt make sense
I reckon the Wade sin-bin effected Dale's minutes. Not sure on Cam. Maybe a niggle.

Cam starting at 9 is obviously the move. There is no reason to play Brailey 80 minutes if we have 2 big minute edge forwards.

Panfas can win a comp starting Mitch Kenny, having a backup hooker to tackle for the first 20 minutes isn’t a big deal. You just chuck on Brailey first interchange.

So in that analysis we could see game time with Dale, Cam and Toby playing in the middle.

Dale only came back on after Wade got binned though.
Whoops - you're right. I though he came on a bit later than that. Who knows then? Maybe Fitz just wanted to give everyone about half a game in round 1 to see how the combos go.

Which one have you assigned as the big prop and which is the mobile prop? I assume McInnes is the lock

I'd look at

8 BHU // Hunt // Kaufusi // Hazleton // Finucane // Williams // Colquhoun //
10 Rudolf // Kaufusi // Finucane // Williams // Colquhoun //
13 Finucane // McInnes // Graham // Williams // Colquhoun

Those are roughly how I see the three middle 'roles' and depth. Playing 7 of these 10 per game (ideally at least two from each spot, more inclined to have depth at 8 as this role would play shorter higher impact minutes ideally).
If someone is out injured they are replaced from their depth chart, which obviously cross over a lot the deeper you go. Kaufusi is ahead of Hazleton in 8 jersey just because I'm not sure we'd start Hazleton just yet.

So at the moment I'm thinking my best 17 is
BHU Rudolf Finucane
McInnes Kaufusi Hunt Hazelton
18th man Graham/Williams

I didn't notice at the time, but did you spot our forwards linking with the short passes against Souths?

I think McInnes, kaufusi, Hunt and Hazelton is prob a touch big. And Willams instead of Hunt or Hazelton adds something a bit different if available. I do think though that we should have two props on the bench. One worker and one for impact.

Williams only played 15 minutes and Souths had the ball almost the whole time.

McInnes, Finucane, Graham each did a little bit of it.

Need more from this bloke this week. Especially with him being captain.
Based on how we do without him on the field it feels like we need more from someone else... Who is the leader when he's off?

Nico's still growing into it (and won't be back for who knows how long anyway), Blayke, Will and Moylan don't seem the types, not does Cam, Toby, BHU... I'm running out of candidates...!
