Sharks Forever's ratings for Cronulla vs North Qld (NRL Premiership, Round 7, 2006)

CRONULLA:
1. David Simmons - 5
Looked better on the wing, was very solid. Hate to be harsh, but his first-tackle dummy half runs are quite ineffective, and a waste of 1/6 of the set!
2. Darren Albert - 6
Lovely cover tackle in the first half. Should be the fullback, though would like to see more urgency. One error on his goal line.
3. Nigel Vagana - 6
Backed up Dykes well to score with a great Superman dive! Still not getting the ball enough. Vags -> 5/8!
4. Phil Bailey - 7
Got the Sharks going with a powerful solo try, and was very strong in getting the Sharks out of our own half.
5. Luke Covell - 6
Was put under great pressure in the last 15 minutes, and responded magnificently.
6. Brett Kearney - 5
Did some good things, bringing some energy to the backline, but made a number of errors, including a bad intercept pass leading to the Cowboys' first try. though.
7. Adam Dykes - 8
Hogged it a bit in the first 50 minutes, but won the game with a brilliant last 30 minutes. One solo try, set up Vagana with another solo grubber and pick-up, and outstanding tactical kicking to keep the dangerous Cowboys back three pinned down.
8. Ben Ross - 8
Did heaps of work all game, but really came alive late in the second half, and took the Cows by the horns with some tremendous hit-ups.
9. Kevin Kingston - 7
Once again, should have earned more penalties with his smart dummy-half running. Beat the Cowboys at their own game.
10. Luke Douglas - 8
How good is he! Playing way beyond his years, every hit-up is strong and every tackle crunching. Even fit in a very nice offload, which was unfortunately dropped.
11. Reece Williams - 6
Did not notice him that much, but all of the forwards had to put in a mighty effort to stop the Cowboys, and he was no exception.
12. Lance Thompson - 8
Was sick during the week, but came up with an amazing game, looking years younger. His solo try was the quickest I've seen him move, stepping off his left foot and smashing his way across the line. Made great metres when the game was in the balance at the end, getting over the advantage line each time.
13. Paul Gallen - 7
Very dangerous on the edges, the Sharks look a far more confident team with Gallen starting. Always puts his hand up for the difficult hit-ups.
14. Hutch Maiava - 7
Super sub! Made a good impact with strong running.
15. Brett Kelly - 5
Only got about 10 minutes, and I did not notice him, being too worried about the result! GJust did well to not cost us the game, given the pressure situation he was put in for his debut!
16. Greg Bird - 6
Drew in multiple defenders with his committed running. Should retain his spot.
17. Tevita Latu - 7
Electric performance. Made a bad mistake when he first came on, running it on the 5th, but from then on he changed the game for the Sharks with the speed he brings to the team.

Unregistered user's ratings for Cronulla vs North Qld (NRL Premiership, Round 7, 2006)

CRONULLA:
1. David Simmons - 5
Got these 5 points for his work on the wing, which is solid.Looks confident on wing, lost at fullback. Just doesn't make the metres on kick returns and positional play in the No. 1 is still poor
2. Darren Albert - 6
Thought he had his best game of the year so far. More involved and looked threatening with the ball, especially when at fullback. Couple of mistakes back there though. great cover defence in 1st few minutes
3. Nigel Vagana - 5
Didn't get much ball, which still says somethinng about the game plan. Needs to play 5/8 to be a real weapon for us. Solid and builds confidence for other players with his presence
4. Phil Bailey - 5
Good, strong try but your still not a centre. Better than last week though
5. Luke Covell - 5
Nothing brilliant but looked stronger in attack and defence when compared to recent performances
6. Brett Kearney - 5
Solid, but not a stand out performance. Did the basics right which is all he has to do
7. Adam Dykes - 4
Sure he might have scored a try and set up another but that doesn't mean he had a brilliant game. Last tackle options in 1st half were pathetic and missed to 2 tackles which lead to Cowboys tries, so really he should have made up for it with those 2 for us. For the first 55 mins he was poor.
8. Ben Ross - 8
Strong display. A great game in attack with good hit ups and solid in the middle in defence
9. Kevin Kingston - 6
Smart work in attack which makes our attack so much stronger and solid in defence
10. Luke Douglas - 7
Showed he is a classy player with good prospects. Showed no fear of his highly regarded opposition.
11. Reece Williams - 5
Defence was reliable but still some work needed in his ball running cause its predictable
12. Lance Thompson - 8
What a workhorse! Thank god he joined us.
13. Paul Gallen - 6
Slowly getting back to his best, buts still a way to go from last year's form. Thankful he's back though
14. Hutch Maiava - 6
Hit ups lead the way for the team when coming off the bench. Think he's better suited to coming off the bench and running at tired forwards
15. Brett Kelly - 3
Didn't really stand out but don't think he was given many chances
16. Greg Bird - 5
Looked threatening at times but needs to do that all the time
17. Tevita Latu - 6
Smart player who gets us going forward with some good dummy half runs and work

Albert shouldn't play fullback. All tries were scored while he was there. He's a winger.

CRONULLA:
1. David Simmons - 6
Did some good things but should be put on the right wing instead of Albert
2. Darren Albert - 5
Did get involved and has not done so for a number of weeks. When reicieved the ball he looked dangerous and should go to fullback
3. Nigel Vagana - 7
Scored the match winner and made a great try saving bootlace tackle on Carl Webb.
4. Phil Bailey - 6
Good running, scored a cheeck try, but would much rather him in the pack
5. Luke Covell - 7
Great kicking, great defending and great running.
6. Brett Kearney - 6
Forming a good combination with dykesy
7. Adam Dykes - 9
Our Hero
8. Ben Ross - 8
Did prove himself for origin
9. Kevin Kingston - 7
Got many cheap maters from hooker.
10. Luke Douglas - 9
Should start every game now
11. Reece Williams - 7
PLayed good, but did not do anything special, just his usual consistent game.
12. Lance Thompson - 10
What can i say, he is a must in the Australian side
13. Paul Gallen - 8
He is back. and with a point to prove, great game
14. Hutch Maiava - 7
Good impact from his best postion, we will miss him in the weeks to come.
15. Brett Kelly - 7
Only got 10min on the field and did a lot in them, should be the starting center and put bails back in the pack
16. Greg Bird - 6
usaual game, will get better in the weeks to come
17. Tevita Latu - 7

4. Phil Bailey - 6
Defended well, waste of space attacking wise in the backline

Chad's ratings for Cronulla vs North Qld (NRL Premiership, Round 7, 2006)

CRONULLA:
1. David Simmons - 7
Much better game, safe at the back - will be better for the experience
2. Darren Albert - 6
Tried harder to get involved.
3. Nigel Vagana - 6
Even though he scored a try Nigel was not involved enough. Very good in defence though.
4. Phil Bailey - 6
Better in defence and attack and a lot more disciplined
5. Luke Covell - 6
Good game, ran strongly and came up with some good tackles. Kicked the winning goal
6. Brett Kearney - 7
I thought he did quite well, linked nicely with Dykes and gave us another option with his kicking game.
7. Adam Dykes - 8
Outstanding performance. Marshalled his troops well and was always a danger. Scored one try and set up another
8. Ben Ross - 7
Always strong up front and led the pack well
9. Kevin Kingston - 6
Did better than last week and helped plug the gaps up the middle.
10. Luke Douglas - 7
Strong game - really took it to the Cowboy forwards and made some good runs
11. Reece Williams - 6
Ran well and went well again without shining. Did a lot of work in defence
12. Lance Thompson - 9
Another outstanding game from Lance - still continues to be our inspiration in attack and defence
13. Paul Gallen - 6
Slowly getting there after injury - still needs to control the ball, dropped it twice inside our 30.
14. Hutch Maiava - 4
Not ,much game time for Hutch and he suffered a rib injury
15. Brett Kelly - 4
Again not much game time but gained some invaluable experience
16. Greg Bird - 5
STrong in attack but still has trouble reading the defence. Went missing for Rod Jensen's try
17. Tevita Latu - 7
Always looked dangerous out of dummy half and made some good breaks
