And now getting to the point where we'll have to pay overs for decent players.

Great.

Just about every team outside the top 5 have copped a flogging this year. Those top 5 teams can't sign everyone so players will have to go somewhere for their value or take unders contracts.

Sure, but have they copped two in a row and lost to Canterbury in recent weeks? We'd want to improve soon.

I for one welcome Fitz as our new coach, I really think we have snagged a good one here, but I think we won't be up there for another couple of years.

I can't see us being a dominant force maybe until 2024. We have a lot of rebuilding, not just on the roster but rebuilding the pride in our jersey and what it means to wear it. I can't stress how important going back to Shark Park is, because really that's where it starts, coming back home.

I’ve always backed the board with getting rid of Morris but I was thinking we were bringing Flanno back and I was comfortable he would get us back to the Sharks we got use to seeing under him fairly quickly and had no worries with star players wanting to come play with us under him ..

But with Fitz it’s very unknown and it would be for the players too

How many teams would beat Melbourne in Melbourne and Penrith in Penrith in consecutive weeks?

Even Souths (who are probably the 3rd best team) got pumped harder than us.

I get that people were angry after the Bulldogs loss (I was too), but playing probably the best 3 teams in consecutive weeks - all away - would be a tough ask for the majority of teams in the comp.

We lost to Melbourne in Melbourne and Penrith at Penrith with many holes in our team etc. Not many would have done better given the same situation.

No shame in losing to those two teams.....however the way in which we lost is a concern.Does seem to be general apathy in the squad
If we keep turning the ball over like we have we will continue to struggle
Fitness is exposed on back of mistakes and the whole thing compounds.
Lots of work to do

My post critical of the board has been deleted. Mods please confirm why so I can edit it. I don't believe it broke any forum rules

When everything is going well the players and the coach take all the credit.

When everything is going poorly the coach and the board take all the credit.

It’s the boards job to ensure the long term success of the club. It’s the players job to ensure the success of the players right now.

If you can sit and type away disagreement that Fitzgibbon wasn’t a good choice for coach next year, then good luck to you. The fact is that it was a perfectly sound and astute hiring, particularly with the club in the position it was. The messiness that comes with that has many facets of blame, however all of which should not lose track of the root reason.

The players are responsible for our current successes on the field. We have a team with a number of international and state representatives, and players who have played in excess of 100 NRL games.

The effort and attitude the vast majority of them show is appalling. Sadly however, the most appalling aspect is the level of accountability some supporters are laying at the feet of these players.

Agreed!
Funny thing is that Fitness was Bombers big focus over the off season.
If they keep turning the ball over cheaply and need to defend, defend, defend, no matter what their fitness levels are, they will get cooked soon enough whilst the other team remains relatively fresh and these are the end results.
Also There are far to many that have mentally exited IMO and I disagree with Hannay in his presser that the boys are “hurting”. Some might be, but others (shown by their efforts) no longer look interested.

Excellent post.

What this board has done to secure our long term future is underrated. Yet they are responsible for the poor performance on field.

Not sure if I’ve ever seen players performance been blamed by the board before anywhere else in rugby league?

The board can put clubs in bad situations that can result in poor teams.

But this roster isn’t all that bad compared to some out there, The players are just playing absolutely pathetic, you can literally see them walking back onside when the other team is attacking at 100 mile an hr across the field.

Either the coach hasn’t got these players right for the season (which I think we are still way behind for these new rule changes) or these players are no longer up to first grade standard. If they can’t find something to play for this year (pride, new contract, new incoming coach, etc) then it’s time for them to be playing reserve grade. Bit hard though why we have so many injuries.

With or without Morris, we weren't going to make the top 8 this year. The cracks were showing way before Morris was sacked, even to the point that they were showing late last year.

The club decided that Morris was not the man to take us through to the next stage. Also from what Riccio said in the podcast, the option to have Morris stay on til the end of year was given to the players and staff, and majority apparently were ok to say good bye.

Take how you want, but from that, the poor showing on field is totally on the players and playing staff.

Yeah it’s better it’s now then later, put it this way if any of the boys were playing well we would be re signing a lot of them.

Happy to see the back of 95% of the group and some good recruiting

Doing it this early gives Fitz way more time to start recruiting and not miss out any players. If we waited to later in the year Reynolds might not have even been available.

Yep most these ****s have shown they're weak individuals who crack the sooks & have inflated opinions on their worth & ability.

The whole "senior player" group can just go get ****ed.

Disagree I think we were a very good chance of making the 8 again , we showed enough in the first 5 rounds and with many players to come back from injury we were certainly a better than even money chance.

Would we have gone far ? Probably not but who knows

I have no probs with the club deciding bomber was not the man but massive probs with the way it was handl ed

Riccio says the players were asked , no they were told flat out , is what I’ve been told by an insider

Performances on the field are the players responsibility sure but there morale has been shot down by the boards actions , many are plainly unhappy obviously

The caretaker coach is not the right person for this situation and this is reflected by the players actions ,

Unfortunately. We can’t do a single bloody thing , this season is over already , thankfully there will be a clearance sale at the end of year and then we move forward ,

The whole situation is so disappointing and upsetting for fans and sponsors hence their desire to blame the board

Finally I cannot see our performances improving at all for the remainder of this year so get used to some drubbings

The absolute best we would've made was probably 7th or 8th absolute best. We had injuries coming in aswell, and there were issues from last year that weren't solved and knew it was going to come over.

Unless you're Storm or Penrith 2021 is done. Hold the GF next weekend between them and give the rest of the comp a head start on getting a little competitive for '22.

Being unhappy is not an excuse for poor performance though.

There’s not another profession in the world where it would be acceptable to under perform and lack any resemblance of effort, other than professional sport. The sooner we stop accepting this garbage unhappiness excuse, the better.

The let’s blame the board excuse stopped a few weeks ago.

It’s now on the players and coaching staff.
