Official Cronulla Sharks Board + Management

Some other notes:
  • Stadium naming sponsorship negotiations still ongoing with 4-5 potential companies, but doesn't sound like there's anything going to be signed tomorrow.
  • The AGMs also give a bit of perspective on how much the board/CEO actually have to deal with. It's not all leagues club and stadiums, it's things like:
    • Increased electricity costs at Kareela
    • Increased medical bills due to player injuries
    • Extra gaming machine payouts at Kareela
  • Various motions removed references to Cronulla-Caringbah JRLFC from the Constitution (as part of a clean-up). Dino promised to move changes next year to add references back to the Constitution to acknowledge Cronulla-Caringbah's role in founding the club. I guess like a preamble to the Constitution.
  • Sharks beat a number of other clubs to be selected for the Perth game. They see it as a tremendous opportunity, including in terms of membership.
Different business but I work very closely with our CEO, yep the amount of crap she deals with on a daily basis is huge.

No, they didn't say, but seems like it's definitely worth it financially.
Not sure how much money we actually make without the leagues club for a game at Shark Park.

I remember 10 years ago we used to need about 10k crowd to break even.

I can see why it's tempting to take games to other venues (where we get paid).

Yes I'm not sure, but I haven't heard this sort of break-even metric mentioned any time recently.

All the revenue talk is positive:
  • Almost record commercial/partnership revenue (I think 2017 just beat it)
  • Record memberships + revenue
  • Record ticket sales revenue
  • Record merchandise revenue
  • I think it was 97% of seats sold to members
I realise the revenue records tend to happen over time as the prices increase each year. And we keep being successful on the field.

But like they said yesterday, we almost set record commercial/hospitality, with half the boxes/spaces unavailable, compared to 2017, which was the post-premiership year with the whole ground available.

So I think they generally tend to see each home game as a positive except Thursdays and Fridays 6pm. Even then, the total membership + corporate/hospitality money basically covers these games I imagine. I think the "hot ticket" nature of the ground is almost a positive in terms of selling memberships and selling games out early. We don't have to stress about walk-up crowd numbers like the old days. The only regret at the moment is the revenue we are missing out on. (Last paragraph is just my interpretations!).

Pretty sure it was higher than that, I seem to remember something like 13k?

I could be wrong, though. Rare but is does happen.

Thanks for the detailed report .

Biggest disappointment for me was the low attendance , given all the hindsight experts we have seen on social media & heard on podcasts . Club management was obviously expecting a much larger attendance & were prepared to tell members as much detail as they could about the financials & the leagues club situation. It is telling that again there were no new nominations for directors so the continuing directors are to be applauded for their ongoing nil honorarium commitment.

Just to note that it is good that on average 100+ member seats are being resold each home game .

Re attendance, I agree that all the armchair critics should have definitely attended. Put up or shut up.

Personally, I've got enough personal things going on in life to attend, but have faith that the people running the club are doing the best they can with the club's best interest at heart.

I wonder where the COE is at … we know the women’s change rooms have sharks $$ and should LNP they’ll throw$$
its dead in the water. the money allocated in 2017 was rescinded

as to election promise money, personally i would hope the sharks are backing both horses in a two horse race

And just on an issue that was a hot topic on here after last weekend , yes the club has rights over the advertising signage visbile throughout the stadium & is getting paid for the new large sign .

Not sure how much but obviously needs to be more .

OK interesting thanks, so my assumption was wrong!

Yeah it's a big ask for most people for a 2.5 hour meeting on a Wednesday

To be honest, I think the lower attendance is the main reason this one was more useful. About 80% of the questions were useful. Sometimes there are huge rambling speeches about minor issues (e.g. football team questions), and sometimes a bit sycophantic. The old veterans know when to talk and when to listen!
