Official Cronulla Sharks Board + Management

Seems positive. But some things not so clear to me. Like the drop in cash/cash equivalents (some may have gone into Investiments). Also the big increase in "Property, plant and equipment" value. But maybe that covers the cash going into the leagues club "work in progress".

I guess all I'm saying is we've got a lot of different buckets with different money in them that can be moved around. You'd need an auditor to really understand everything.

Did we ever clarify if it was us who sold a secondary property to NRL?
If so presumably that former bank (I think it was) shop front?
I don't think it was us. From the report:

Also, during the financial year, Rileys Gym signed a long-
term lease at 94 Cronulla Street, our property acquisition
from the previous year, with this investment now providing
us with a strong financial return.

Also just a reminder

The 68th Annual General Meeting of CRONULLA-SUTHERLAND LEAGUES CLUB LIMITED (the “Club”) will be held on Wednesday 26 March 2025 at 6:30pm at the premises of Sharks @ Kareela

NOTE 3. If members have questions on the Financial Report they are respectfully requested to submit them to the Chief Executive Officer, Mr Dino Mezzatesta, at least seven (7) days before the Annual General Meeting so that if necessary the matter can be appropriately researched before the Annual General Meeting.

A few interesting little points, in most cases the Annual Report just does not have enough detail to really understand/judge it fully.

Still I’m glad they covered it… in the end it makes more difference than a lot of other issues.

I don't knkw
hey its great they actually went into some details.

gaming revenue down at kareela is interesting

we need the main club open
I don't know how anyone can afford to play pokies at them moment. Everything is so bloody expensive

A fairly lightly-attended AGM, but one of the more useful ones I have been to.

There were no big player signing announcements, but Dino has extended as CEO for another 3 years (until the end of 2028), and we are working on some other contracts.

There are ongoing negotiations regarding the club handover, but it is not a war (both sides are trying to work it out).
I think I'm reasonably objective with the CEO/Board, but my conclusion is that they are doing as good a job as anyone could do to get this sorted, and I feel confident they will work it out in the best timing they can. If there is information they are not giving out, there are good reasons. The tender for our building works is open and expected to close in April. Projected costs continue to increase, however, the club spent $4.4 million to fix the roof last year, so that is at least something out of the way (and was included in our balance sheet).

There were a series of excellent questions put to Dino, particularly by Scott Longmuir (former Sharks/Tigers exec), just about the overall risks/benefit of the leagues club, and also about the stadium plan. I applaud people for having the guts to put those questions forward, but again, I thought Dino answered them well/honestly.

Football club members also had the privilege of being able to vote in Mat Rogers, Tommy Bishop, Jason Stevens and Brett Kimmorley as life members. Stevo and Noddy were there, as well as Tommy Bishop's son, Neil. Stevens mentioned that Peter Gow got him to sign with the Sharks by promising him a data with Elle (though it never happened!).

Fitzy was there for the entire AGM as well, solid effort.

Overall, I guess I'm being pretty circumspect this year, it's hard to judge what should be public or private, so I will err on the side of what's best for the club this year (and hope anyone else there does too). If I thought they were taking the wrong path, or not acting in the best interests of the club, then I would speak up.

Thanks for the report 🦈

Thanks, SF, great summary.

What was Dino's response to the stadium plan?

What was Dino's response to the stadium plan?
I can't remember all the details, as it was spread over several questions.

One of the regulars asked if Mike Dorrell might buy the stadium. Dino sort of joked that it might be an option, but then basically said it will need some major change for major upgrades to happen. Whether that's getting the NRL or the Government involved in the ownership. Even re-doing the ET Stand has been costed in the past as costing $185 million. He said Vlandys is still active lobbying for us. Overall though, I think getting the leagues club sorted is the #1 priority, and everything else takes a back seat at the moment, so most of it was just thought bubbles.

Another question asked about taking a big game each year to Allianz (e.g. Sharks-Manly). But Dino was sceptical:
  • Relies on getting the right timeslot (all up to the broadcaster)
  • Disappointing turnout to the two finals games last year
  • The club would have to pay to hire the stadium, as opposed to the payments we receive when we take games away.
  • Coach/players have enough travel already.

Some other notes:
  • Stadium naming sponsorship negotiations still ongoing with 4-5 potential companies, but doesn't sound like there's anything going to be signed tomorrow.
  • The AGMs also give a bit of perspective on how much the board/CEO actually have to deal with. It's not all leagues club and stadiums, it's things like:
    • Increased electricity costs at Kareela
    • Increased medical bills due to player injuries
    • Extra gaming machine payouts at Kareela
  • Various motions removed references to Cronulla-Caringbah JRLFC from the Constitution (as part of a clean-up). Dino promised to move changes next year to add references back to the Constitution to acknowledge Cronulla-Caringbah's role in founding the club. I guess like a preamble to the Constitution.
  • Sharks beat a number of other clubs to be selected for the Perth game. They see it as a tremendous opportunity, including in terms of membership.
