"When I got elected as chairman, the club had $14 million debt.

"Now, $10 million of that debt has been paid, we only owe $3 million."

14,000,000 - 10,000,000 = 4,000,000.....................

Something just doesn't add up and I'm to believe our membership numbers.

Ive got no problem with a bit of self promotion, and ive got no problem with keogh talking up our future. I dont like people taking credit they dont deserve though

Very good point BWB All the hard yakka and hard slog was done by the young President who kept us afloat when we were all but gone with some support by the old Board.

Our Young Champ got the flick and moved to The old dart and by all accounts is doing a great job there. and the old board also got railroaded

Yes we do need good PR BUT THIS IS REALLY GRANDSTANDING AT ITS BEST OR WORST.

So the fella who did all the hard yards was made the scapegoat . Instead of the football club management and in any other Corporate organisation Flanno would have been goneski as well.

Management must have an equal amount of Authority and an equal amount of RESPONSIBILITY.

It makes me laugh how some of you lot get upset about Keogh taking credit for the work Irvine and his board put in with the development, which is fair enough though I am not sure he actually takes credit.
But you also fail to acknowledge the work Barry Pierce and his board did with the development as well before Irvine. All that seems to get conveniently forgotten. Their model mighten have been as good but they put in a hell of a lot of work of work getting the land re-zoned and approved for development.
Spade a spade people.

Barry Pearce may have been someone who nearly sent us to the wall And if Keogh did not say he was responsible for the money from the development it was implied.

Ok, I'll call a spade a spade.

Pierce's proposal was not commercially viable.

It did not offer much in the way of initial or on-going revenues, would have required the Club to become the Property Developers (a business area that they had no prior experience in) and thereby expose itself to all sorts of risks. Even when put out for Expressions Of Interest to find a Development partner, not ONE Developer supported it as a sound project to get involved in.

Also, don't forget that to a large degree the extremely protracted, poorly managed, approval process was one of the prime reasons why the Club had amassed the crippling debt it was in.

Don't dispute that at all Fitz. What you say is correct but the fact remains his board still put in a lot of work on the project and got the land rezoned. All this seems to get coveniantly forgotten by the DI loyalists.

Well said Fitz sums it up Pretty well. I still maintain Barry Pierce just about killed this club with some very inept management and very average decisions. And looked after his family and let us go broke and left us up to our eyes in debt.

He was a disaster, and we are still trying to get back on track from the heritage he left us.

i wasnt praising Irvine. I was saying Keogh had no right to act like the saviour. Its no secret that the development is the work of more than just 1 person. But the fact is the 10 million dollar check that got us from the 13-14 million in debt down to about 4 (effectively allowing us to repay more money toward the debt from our own budget) came months before Keogh was the man of the chair.

Just for the sake of putting forward a true and accurate representation, the land has been rezoned three times since the Gow years.
  • Gow Era: 2x Industrial sheds - value to club $1.5m approx
  • Pierce Era: Hotel, SEPP5 & small commercial all on Eastern car pack, NPV was negative and no developer or bank would go near it.
  • Old Board: $700m project, net $50m+ to the Club
  • Keogh / Unity: Nothing apart from spending blow-out and securing the Pizza-Man as the "guarantor"

Keogh is a sleaze. He has opportunistically wiggled his way into power and nabbed one sponsor. This guy must have an angle, I don't know what it is, but he comes across as an absolute grub.

His angle is to get the Sharks in the paper for something good for a change - a positive spin.

With due respect to those in this forum that can recite the history of the club, decisions made, key dates and by who etc, the vast majority of the NRL and reading public dont have, (and will never care to have) a clue...its about showing that the club is on the up and up and not a car crash all the time.

I for one am surprised each time I look in the paper and not see a headline about us at all, especially when we are so used to seeing stories where we (or someone linked to us) f$#ked something up.

We will still have bad stories in the media to come...I say lets not dwell too much on a good one...
