Goal kicking has nothing to do with it.

I can count at least 5 times flash let grubbers bounce over him that led to tries. I also remember him never passing to guys in out the back plays, just straightened up and took the tackle. I also remember 1 time he ran the ball into the ingoal when he had straightened up then ran it into touch cos he had no idea where he was. Was a lover of letting the ball bounce for the easy catch.

When you talk about value for money, goal kicking has everything to do with it. Is holmes giving us value for money?

Would like to see the stats of Holmes v Dugan. Saying he’s a better ball player is pretty funny. I don’t remember Val doing any last year

To be fair, we had quality goal kickers to do the kicking until now, so Val never really had to worry about his goal kicking once he started in the NRL team. He was pretty accurate in U20's thou if I recall.
Maybe if Chad sucks big ones with his kicking Val might just need to wipe away the cobwebs and could be just as good (if not better) than Flash.

Wouldn't be surprised if Val gets back the kicking tee if he ends up playing on the wing again

We’re talking about fullback play. Not goal kicking. Dont use that as any argument to say 1 guy was a better fullback cos he could land more goals.

The original point of this thread late last year still stands. The guy has played TWENTY games at fullback. There is only one fullback in the last 20 years who has become a gun without 30-40 games in the spot AND a few shockers along the way. Lockyer. That’s it. We need to temper our expectations. He had a shocker last week - get over it. It doesn’t mean he can’t play.

You'd think being Sharks fans we'd be more patient.
It took us 50 seasons to finally win a premiership after all.

I think better is the wrong word

Val occasionally attempts to ball play with mixed results - Dugan wouldn't release the ball for a case of Bacardi's

Funny that .. on NRL360 they mentioned flanno said moving him to wing has relieved alot of pressue off him because he did not feel up to the full on responsibility fb comes with.

They pointed out he had trouble playing/passing on one side (Bird's side, which is probably why he got bored) and preffered playing the left side of the field which is why our game plan to the centres suffered and we seemed stagnant in attack last year .... plain to see it was getting to him

It isn't about his career, it is about what is the best for the Sharks this season to achieve success. We are not in a rebuild period, we are still in a premiership window and it is quickly passing.

I get that. The point here is that if we don’t know what the ceiling is for this player and we won’t see it unless he plays another 30 games there. It is a risk. He could be as good as RTS, or he could be the next Simmo.

As far as what is best for the team, Dugan is a great short term option but if he is your first choice fullback you aren’t winning anything.

Val has raw talent.

Does anyone know what the Club are doing to develop his skills? Is he getting the specialised training/mentoring he needs, or is he expected to just improve naturally?

Is Flanno seriously going to do the rotation thing again?

I swear to God Flanno just wants to watch the world burn

Maybe Flanno is giving fullback to Dugan now but using this rotation crap there until Dugan gets his match fitness up.

Given that they have invested $2.5m in the guy you would have to assume they are giving him the necessary resources to succeed.

2.5M on him, how much are we going to waste on the rest of the team waiting for him to come good?
