Only way to find out would be to make him bat on uncovered pitches without a helmet and see if he can average 100

OK. I am officially an idiot for starting it. Maybe I was just bored or just excited at Steve Smith's meteoric rise.

Let's just let this thread disappear into the ether...

Topic for discussion. Have a read of this article first:

Smith has reached 10 centuries much faster than any other player with the exception of Bradman and Everton Weekes.

Short answer: No.

Long answer: Whilst he will never equal Bradman, to be fair to Smith, no-one ever will. Not only in cricket, in any sport.

No other sportsman has a record that is so far beyond their nearest rivals. Not Jordan, not Ali, no-one.

Bradman was more than a once in a generation sportsman. He was possibly a one off - a freak that will never be equaled.

And I'm not saying this as a Bradman fan. Whilst I'm in awe of his record, from all reports he was a bit of a jerk.

So the question is, can he be as good as Bradman?

Sorry, I really buggered that up, didn't I but here's what I was trying to say: http://www.quora.com/Who-is-the-greatest-sportsperson-of-all-time-1

"Other sportsmen and women may be great in their sports or even in several, but no-one in the history of sport has ever been as far in front of all other players in any sport as the greatest ever cricket batsman, Australia's Sir Don Bradman.

Bradman ended his career with a test average of 99.94 runs over 52 matches from 1928 to 1948. To put this in context, the second highest ever test average is that of Graeme Pollock with 60.97. The third is that of George Headley with 60.83, then Herbet Sutcliffe with 60.73 and so on, down through averages that differ from each other only by fractions of a run as you go down the list.

This means Bradman had a average that was a full 38.97 runs ahead of the next highest player's average. Statistician Charles Davis analysed the performance of various elite sportsmen by comparing the number of standard deviations they stand above the mean for their sport. The results showed Bradman was unmatched in the way he dominated his sport:"
