Yep. Has played a couple of good games in the absence of Dale.

With Toby out for an extended period, maybe Dale comes back in the front row rotation and we leave Cam in the 13
Agree , I keep waiting last night for his signature play ( the lost ball when playing the ball ) & it didn't happen .

Benefits from expending some of his nervous energy through doing longer stints.

If that's not possible when Finucane returns, maybe a jiu jitsu session with Fitz, or even drop him a couple of km off the coast of Cronulla so he has to swim to shore before the game.

Huh? How is he doing longer stints.

Should've always been a starting 13.
I think people are getting hung up on the "starting" part. If he is going to play 60 minutes in the exact same role every week, does it make much difference when that is? Don't we want the team to play well for the entire 80, so whichever 60 Fitz reckons is best to use him is the way to go?

I reckon if you pick a random game from last year where he comes off the bench, edit it to hide the clock and only show the 60 minutes McInnes is on the field, other than his jersey number nobody could tell the difference between that game and the way he plays when he starts.

I think people are thinking of the 'softening up' period. That was the argument around putting Cam in at 9 to start, anyway

He has been great the last two weeks. He had some issues in the few games before that. That could just come down to a few drop balls from crash balls and rushed play the balls that sour his all round performance earlier.

So it could simply be that in the last two games, when he was starting, he managed to hold on to the ball better, which meant his runs were more effective rather than producing errors. If he was making errors starting instead of off the bench, it could well be the opposite.

On the eye test, he seemed to be hungrier and more determined. That could be trying to step up in the absence of other forwards, or wanting to demonstrate that he wants the starting jersey. But I would agree I don't think he is really playing differently, he's just had better games.

If anything the debate could be that he settles into the game better starting rather then coming of the bench and thinking he needs to make an immediate impact/change the game

Some players are just better suited to starting

He'll be playing with & against a different rotation of forwards. Different levels of fatigue between first 20 & last 20. Coming off the bench you're getting a different match situation, starting its always nil all with 80 left. Riding pine to start suuuucks.

Where did those stats come from?
First 5 rounds 29,48,31,44,49
Last 2 rounds starting 56,54
Many, many hours developing a model for mapping player usage ;)

That is his typical stint all of last year, and when the team doesn't get HIA/interchange dramas. He comes on at some point before half time and plays the rest of the game, and he almost always plays between 50 and 60.

Somewhere in the 41-64 minute range is normal for him in the usage chart (the 812 minutes in the first pie chart), including almost the entire second half (the 900 minutes in the second pie chart). The last two weeks he has been playing similar minutes, but he has been moved in to Finucane's rotation (a 25-30 minute stint and a 20-25 minute stint).

A couple of games this year were messed up with HIAs, sin bins or other subs. Those three games in the 40's were all close to his normal usage :)

McInnes consistently played more minutes and longer stints than Finucane all of last year even though he rarely started in games.

*Note that this is not my opinion. It's what is reflected by the model.

Ah, so he did more minutes in the last 2 games compared to the previous games this season?

Yes - but 44, 48, 49, 54, 56 are all within the range of his his normal usage since joining the Sharks (his average is actually closer to 60). The other two games were very low.

We weren’t talking about him playing more minutes through. We were talking about the length of the stint he played (how long he was on the field consecutively). His last two games the length of his longest stint is down on last year.

Roosters: 34 + 22
Bulldogs: 31 + 21
Normal for last season: 20 + 40

Not made up. Reflected by the model across the entire sample of work that is available for Cam McInnes playing at lock starting in 2020. It’s not on me if you can’t tell the difference.

The rest of the forum don't need stats to clearly see McInnes has had 2 of his best games in a while starting in the 13
Not what we were discussing mate. I think that is opinion is likely unanimous.

I believe that the biggest factor in the last two games is no HIA’s or sin bins. Fitz used his bench exactly as planned, instead of having to make forced interchanges.

THAT is just my opinion though.

No, I was talking about the total minutes in the game. I can see how using the word stint would make make you think I meant individual stints rather than total time in service.
