Was talking to a mate of mine just before whose info is always pretty bloody accurate.

McInness had a 4 year offer from the dogs 150k a year more than our offer each year.

Warriors also with a similar deal.

He Sacrificed 600k to sign with us.
No small amount although I guess moving to NZ (or Qld as it actually would have turned out) for him, wife and 3 year old is pretty significant.

Both clubs offer a high chance of being less successful too which also hurts his prospects if he wants to play rep (he was damn close in 2020).

Probably not even moving house or if he is still within same general area. Although I guess if he was Wollongong based Belmore not much further?

I think what would have ultimately swayed him would be the opportunity to play for the greatest club of all time.

Hhaahahaha ha, maybe also a touch of the FU aspect of going to the arch rival. (Maybe the bald one had made overtures as well on the coaching front)

Fitzy telling Cam in origin camp that he would be signing him when became a coach gets me so excited for his signing. The combo of McInnes and Finucane is going to take all of our middles and the side to a new level. Feels like it is going to be a step up or **** off sort of attitude. We have been missing that dearly.

Have we?

Not like we had a wealth of depth to choose from.

Fifita couldn’t cut it and got dropped to the bottom of the pecking order. Magoulias too.
Woods Tolman Williams and BHU all overall good enough to hold their positions given what we had available.

If we dropped everyone who didn’t consistently play great we’d be running out a few players at best.

Team we have had last couple years has been heavily impacted by cap reduction, long term contracts from previous coaches and quite a bit of injury to key players.

I definitely think Finucane and McInnes will bring a lot but I think probably depth of roster had bigger impact recently than attitude.

Maybe that was the catalyst for Fitzy signing with us?
Once he found out that Cam had signed, he decided it was time to take a head coaching role with us.
Bomber did himself out of the job by signing Cam!

We must remember it only takes a long term injury to one or two of the new recruits and suddenly we are struggling.

By the sound of things it def would have been a factor.
Imagine barely being able to recruit the whole time you are coach then you finally have some money and make a good signing… which attracts another coach to steal your job

With all the secret talks Sharks have recently been doing, and the huge secrecy around us coach shopping, and from an early date. It wouldn’t surprise me if Fitz was highly on our radar and McInnes knew that when he was in negotiations. Just a guess

I feel the opposite .
I think we have depth everywhere .
Where do you think we are short ?
Hookers ?
Props?
2nd row ?
Locks ?
Halves ?
Centres ?
Wingers ?
Fullbacks ?

More so within the team than from a coaching perspective. I think Dale and Cam will keep everyone accountable on field and we will see less of the lazy efforts. If those guys are beside you ready to tear you a new one you'd be stepping up for the one percenters.

We were definitely talking to Fitz before McInnes signed. How much each person knew or was involved I got no idea.

You always do. Which pleases me as it convinces me more that I’m right. :)

We do have some depth egg but as I said injury to those new recruits puts added pressure to the rest of the squad. Those who could fill in adequately short term would be fine but long term would struggle in my opinion.

I think just having those players in the squad , even if injured helps in holding everyone accountable and maintaining new standards.
Our squad now has the depth and player quality , no matter what .
Just my opinion

Valid points Chad.
We have a squad of 30, and 6 dev players just like every other team and Injuries are part of the game.
Any team that loses some quality players to injury/ suspension or whatever is going to put pressure on the rest of the squad regardless of if they are new recruits or current players.

I guess egg is just suggesting that our depth is better now than it was before these 3 new recruits.

Genuine depth for Brailey was????
But now, it’s McInnis! 😀
Depth for Tolman was???
But now Tolman is depth for Finucane! 😀😀
Depth for Moylan/SJ was Tracey/ Trindall
But Nicho replaces SJ who is much younger and is showing some great skill.
Metcalf, Trindall and Moylan battle out to be his halves partner. Granted not much other than we get a young half who we can build around replacing a good half at the end of a career and goes missing every so often! So maybe a break even on this one.

Still think we need another prop, second rower and centre (still not sold on Tracey in the centres just yet) .

I think we are close to having an amazing squad. It is very good. Just Fifita being on big money and Graham is on a touch more than he should. One or two tier 1 players away from being a real premiership force.
