That was only my speculation. Probably far from the truth.
Yeah just saying it’s possible but given his personality and attitude straight away had him earmarked as next captain they likely don’t include traits like not caring about your own career and the club because you see yourself as a better player than the coach.

Personally I think those positives everyone at club liked just don’t translate to on field, throw in a bunch of injuries and rules keep changing and he can’t catch up.

Thanks for the summation Burgess, very interesting.

My only question is that some players have retired because they say the game is too fast for them (eg Trent Merrin) and there are plenty of other players that we fans have now said are no longer suited? And I am not talking about ability.

If the game is not faster, why are some players under the microscope for this reason?

The NRL doesn’t need the game to be faster and/or more expansive. They just need fans to think it is. If you have every commentator bang on about the speed of the game and ask players and coaches constantly about the speed of the game it’s going to rub off.

In short - the NRL is a bullshit sprouting spin factory, and you’ve been sucked in mate.

As for Trent Merrin, maybe he just wasn’t up to it anymore. Getting older and playing those years in the ESL probably didn’t make him any MORE suited to the NRL

I forgot he had played there. Any particular games to look at?

Round 13 (2020 obviously) he started at hooker and moved to lock

16 carries for 136 metres and three tackle busts, 62 tackles (one miss), 14 supports, three decoys and an offload.

Played 80 minutes.

Such an amazing defensive players, from day 1 been stoked about this signing. Exactly what we need.

Moyza was too fast for Merrin.

Same. Honest hardworking mongrel who'll tackle himself to death. Sets high standards with his work ethic which makes him a natural leader through his actions whether he's a talker or not, but he talks too.

See him as our Radley/Yeo player. Can't wait.

For anyone looking, McInnes played lock in the following rounds in 2020.

9, 10, 11, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18

He probably switched between lock and hooker in multiple games too.

Round 14 might be a good one to watch. Played 80 and made 58 tackles.

yeah how could they not!

Dale has missed something like 27 tackles all season and comes from a very strong defensive out fit.

McInnes last few seasons has been tackling at something like 97% or something ridiculous, plus always has a high work rate.

I feel that's one thing we can guarantee we'll improve on next year.

Which is good because once again it's proven defense wins you finals matches.

It's a shame he didn't play this season in that we'd all be able to have a fresher memory of how good he goes, plus more than likely he would have played lock alot this year.

In saying that the rest to get over injuries and get his body right, and sounds like he's bulked up will only help.

can't wait for those first training pics

Reckon training will be more intense as well, no room for guys slacking off with these two around.
