So how much money does that free up?

I think I read he was on 300k (ish) - just not sure if we already allocated that but would be silly to do that if he got off. Also that figure could be way off but doesn't seem far fetched.

Definitely frees up a roster spot, but not much point if we don't have the money to sign someone. Maybe we'll see someone Development players promoted like Ferris as has long been tipped.

Could be well positioned for a mid seasons snag of someone!
Other than decent player who has been somewhere for a long time being pushed out (Lewis, Ennis, Morris' and more) the midseason opportunity can be some of the best buys.
Alternately having that money now helps fight off unwanted advances by other clubs to our off contract players. ie if Toby was wavering again we could bump him up a little for this year as part of extension, where another club can only offer him money from next year onwards.

Yep, totally agree.I'm sure they've got a plan for the money, not like this is any of a suprise. Aside from how ****ing long this took. FFS how does it take 18 months from testing to this.

From Club

As a valued member of the Cronulla Sharks, we believe it to be important to keep you updated on significant matters relating to the club.

In this instance, we bring to your attention the handing down of a suspension by the NRL Integrity Unit of four years on former Sharks contracted player Bronson Xerri.

The finding dictates that Bronson cannot hold an NRL contract nor play in the NRL competition until the 2024 season, with the start of his suspension backdated to November 25, 2019, the time of his positive test. The suspension expires on November 25, 2023.

This matter has been before Sports Integrity Australia and the NRL for a period of more than 12 months and although disappointed by the situation and now ultimate outcome, we are relieved to have a final determination.

This does mean that the Sharks will officially terminate Bronson’s contract and whilst we have been supportive of him through this difficult process, the Club does not condone the use of prohibited substances or anyone contravening the rules of the game.

We are confident we have the protocols and practices to best inform our players, from when they enter our Academy system as 14-year old’s, through to our NRL squad members, on the consequences involved with illegal substance use, both from a health perspective and in relation to the rules in place. We will always place the highest importance on rules, regulations and behaviour and how we expect our players to be compliant at every level.

As a young man, Bronson has time on his side and we hope he can put this behind him and should he choose to, return to one day play in the NRL.

Throughout the process we have offered welfare support to Bronson and should he reach out, we would not hesitate to continue to do so during his time under suspension.

We know our Brand is resilient and our people committed to being best ‘off the field’ as well so just wanted to reassure you of our commitment to upholding our Brand and Company values.

Thanks for your continued support of the Sharks and we look forward to seeing you during the 2021 season.

Kind regards
Dino

Presents himself very well and obviously doing an awesome job with sponsorship.

Lets hope he sticks around for a long time.

He’s killing it - a team of him in office and Bellamy in coaching would have us at the top in no time

Wonder if this means we will see a centre promoted to the top 30. If our 3rd best option is now Tracey i'd hope so.

I was suggesting Xerri was keeping it warm for Ferris all offseason but Ferris' injury could be an issue. If it is just 4-6 weeks and looking good he's probably still okay but given Iro jumped Jensen into Cup last week Ferris is probably glad that game got cancelled.
There's no rush to spend the money or the roster spot at this stage.

He cheated, he got caught, he milked the club to the max. ****** off and good riddance.
Totally! And his claim that he only did it once
means nothing, because its a banned substance that enhances healing and performance, so you can’t use it end of story. And why was he in such a rush to heal anyway? Do the rehab like anyone else. His decision to use it suggests he has an attitude problem. Play by the rules or risk getting caught and doing the time, which is 4 years. No one else is to blame here but him.
