Yeah, it was like one injury where he wasn’t even going to be out THAT long. And he wasn’t even playing for a contract.

He was playing for a contract in that November that year he goes on open market and was chasing a big pay day. I think had already turned down our extension offer. Yes he had a year for 2021 but he was banking on setting up his value for new deal end of 2020.

I can also, to an extent, understand (especially with his ego) that missing the season opener when we have Dugan, Ramien and Morris on the books could be a big problem for him.
If he misses a couple rounds and they all play well how/when does he get back into first grade?
I can understand how for him, loving all the hype around him and wanting a big year to get a fat cheques, he had significant concerns about the impact missing early rounds could have.
As it turned out he didn't clear fit anyway so he was both rightly concerned about not being fit in time and royally ****ed himself over in a way that didn't even get him fit on time.
It also transpired we had to move Morris so even though missing some time was guaranteed his path back to first grade wouldn't have been too difficult.

Certainly not offering this up as excuses, just saying I can see how someone like him gets themselves into the spot where they want to cheat their rehab out of desperation.

I can also see why he would want to push that narrative rather than have people think he was a long term user. Even though punishment may be the same one moment of poor decision making potentially reflects better on him than people thinking he only got there by cheating in the first place. The idea he got to where he was without cheating also helps chances of him getting a future deal.

Has Xerri apologised publicly to the club and fans?

Saw something on Instagram where he kind of made himself sound a bit of a victim. Just one mistake, worked so hard to get to where he had, doing it for his family, will be back and show his real fans... that sort of PR fluff

The mentality that sees him view himself as the victim now fits with the weak mentality that would see him think 'it's nor fair that I'm injured, there must be something I can do to get back for season start, anything...'

If he hadn’t been nabbed, he’d be playing for the roosters now anyway.

Shame he didn't take more roids.
If he'd been fit to play round 1 we might have got him on the park and then Roosters may have poached him to best friend Flanju instead of the brothers Morris.
That would have been fantastic.

unless he tested positive after his first dose I really doubt he only did it once - those sort of things take consistent and multiple uses to be effective. one does is not gunna give you much benefit so you may as well not take it at all and avoid the risk of getting caught

anyone else feel like me in just not giving a **** about this bloke playing for the sharks again? centre isn't really where you wanna throw wads of cash at these days anyway, fullback and wings is where you need to invest these days. you need guns in those positions to score points

Look he isn't/wasn't the only player in the NRL taking ****. He got caught. he is young, dumb and will hopefully learn from this. hope ha makes it back... cant see it with us though.
His rhetoric pretty much made that clear.

I wouldn't mind him playing for us again but he'd need to prove himself before earning big coin.

Apparently looking to have a crack at NFL who don’t recognise his ban. Could actually give it a serious shot for more than 1 year if he did.

Apparently looking to have a crack at NFL who don’t recognise his ban. Could actually give it a serious shot for more than 1 year if he did.

Here is one article.

Banned NRL star eyeing shock switch to NFL: Report

Just weeks after being banned for four years by the NRL’s Anti-Doping Tribunal, suspended Sharks star Bronson Xerri is eyeing a shock switch to the NFL.

https://www.foxsports.com.au/nrl/nr...s/news-story/100b4b69a707b5d43cb9c8545153094a

The Sydney Morning Herald reports that Xerri has reached out to Pacific Sports Management – the company that helped another former Sharks star, Valentine Holmes, gain a footing in American football.

Such a move would make sense because while the NRL and other sports in Australia are signatories to the World Anti-Doping Authority, the NFL is not bound by the WADA code, meaning Xerri is free to try his hand.

Xerri would be the third star NRL player to try and make it in the NFL.

Jarryd Hayne played eight games for the San Francisco 49ers in 2015 before quitting the sport in May 2016 as he attempted a last-ditched effort to play for Fiji at the Rio Olympics.

Holmes spent months on the New York Jets’ practice squad in 2019 and played three pre-season games before being released. The 25-year-old returned to the NRL and joined the Cowboys.

But unlike Hayne and Holmes, Xerri has time up his sleeve.

The suspended back would have at least three years to make it because of his ban.

Xerri, 20, is has the physical attributes to challenge for selection. He’s quick, is bulked up and defends in the front line. He was firmly in the mix for Origin until he was suspended in 2020.

Cos Hayne and Val have gone on to do wonderful things post-NFL

True but they also had things to lure them back and probably rushed things too much. Atleast Xerri has time on his hands since he’s got nothing else to do and can atleast stay fit and in a team sport. Plus he’s younger than them.
