100%“At this stage of my career” is the biggest throw away line in the game at the moment used by players to justify “I just want more money”. It doesnt matter what stage of their career a player is at, they always seem to trot out this line. Just be honest and say “I’d like to stay at Cronulla but I feel like I’m worth more money then they’re offering (‘whispers’ even though I’m already paid a motza and can afford to live comfortably for most of my life already hehehe)”.
I actually think a lot of people would respect the brutal honesty instead of him trotting out the old generic lines that no one believes anyway.
BHU was very honest and placed a bit more “loyalty“ into his decision (not just all about the coin).
I’m happy to let him go provided we are being fair with our offer and he still wants to go to a much weaker club, to play for “a coach he really respects” (but unlikely to play for as the coach is already half way out the door) then so be it.
