I agree but im concerned this means Trindall is going to be shifted back to the bench for 5-10 minute stints a game again instead of playing 80 minutes in the halves which would be better for him.
I get that Fitz wants to reward him by playing him in the top 17, but playing 80 (even if for the jets) is better IMHO

Is footy formation always set?

For example, in soccer there are different formations which helps the teams to get creative with their set up. Is something like that possible in footy so we can get creative and find a way to play Trindall, Moylan and Hynes at the same time?

I assume you mean for all to be playing 80 mins?

“Is footy formation always set?”
No, it doesn’t have to be.

Is it possible to be creative?

Yes, but they would need to play a certain position in the D structure which would most likely mean Playing Trindall as the lock (or hooker) if you want all 3 on at the same time.
If you did that from the outset, you bench Dale or Brailey.

Pretty sure that’s not going to happen From the kickoff.

Kind of reminds me of when we first got Barba and played him off the bench. Didn’t really work out that well. Some players need to be on for the whole game for them to really shine.

I'm a big fan of Tricky but anyone thinking Moylan is getting dropped is kidding themselves.
I don’t think Fitz is that stupid.. he’s mentioned Trindall is the future for the club - he’s risking his development if he cuts it short by sending him back to the bench or cup

Happy to have as much coin on that as you want.

Teams have done it, but you’re right. It’s not happening on the Sharks from the kick off.

Trindall under Hannay and Hastings last year are two good examples.

Yeah, it's never really worked has it? More of a stopgap. Like switching winger and fullback during the game...

Having two 7's verse a controlling half and a running half shows some imagination to try and make the most of the talent you've got on hand.

I actually thought the Tigers looked really good with Hastings at lock. It suited the players’ styles. I thought it was a good example of someone “coaching to their cattle” in the NRL rather than just playing the same shape as everyone else.

Andrew Johns at hooker for Australia was an interesting one.
That was moreso just trying to get all the best players in the 13, at a time when there were no stand out hookers to pick. It didn’t change the shape of the team.

Ben Hunt playing lock for Qld game 1 of
2020 is more what we are talking about. He came off the bench though.

Moylan in Rd3 2020 played lock from the bench too.

If Trindall goes bench, train him to play dummy half atleast, give Brailey a breather. But i dont want to see him play lock for 5-10 mins, may aswell put Hazelton or Calqhoun. Wouldnt mind seeing Atkinson in the 14, has played dummy half and lock, has good energy from what we saw in trials, could be a live wire

My feeling is assuming Hynes is back before Graham is back

Hynes, with Trindall on the bench, then when Graham is back Trindall goes back to Jets or is 18th man.

I dont want to see a bench with Graham and Trindall on it, which I doubt we'll see unless we got injuries galore

Preferred Bench for mine is;

Uele (Hunt to start)
Kaufusi
Williams
McInnes

Not sure we'll see it that often though.

Yeah, it looked like it was working but didn't feel sustainable. Maybe that was more to do with Hastings than the plan as such though.

Listing Trindall as 18th man is worse than sending him back to play for the Jets IMHO.

Id prefer the Order to be (in order)

1. 80 min game time (in NRL covering a halves injury otherwise with the Jets if no halves injured)
2. Utility in NRL but only as last resort and we have a lot of injuries other than in the halves
3. NRL 18th man - would rather see him get some game time instead of potential not get anything
