There was one point in the game they kicked and Hynes got back quick and got into hooker for first ptb - something he does a lot - and I thought something to the tune of ‘Hynes a bit under recognised here with all his extra work off the ball.
Then Hynes got into hooker again on next ptb and got it out to a runner and Tricky ran a decoy option outside them he could have got away with not bothering to do. So I say this to highlight both guys working there arses off across the park and the extra work they are both happy to do for the team.

Another thing I saw though was Tricky hiding on the wing for a kick off. Do we often do that and I just hadn’t noticed?
Fine if so, certainly not the first half to be put there. His chase was also quite slow so I was wondering if he may have had a bit of a knock or something.

Yes. Standard for halves. It is coached.

Also 2-in for certain situations.

I’d certainly say I mostly watch the catcher not the chasers but maybe it was him falling a bit further out of the line that usual that made it stand out

I don’t really want a prop making a line for him of a kickoff, so it’s not an issue

A few halves normally do that, I remember SJ and Maloney being frequent on the sideline for kick off.

If it is the same part that I’m thinking of, he had come off a little worse for wear tackling HO the set before

Yeah would not want to be the bloke that guy is running at all day. We contained him well though, especially KL in the 1st half. Wilton struggled a bit with him in 1st contact late in the 2nd half though obviously nothing we couldn’t ultimately handle.

I meant yes to the actual question you asked. Yes it's something the Sharks do under Fitz with both current and previous halves, and yes you probably just haven't noticed it before.

From a coaching PoV it's something you would normally only do on the side of the field the kick off is going to. You still want your open-side winger in place for an early shift/kick or for cover defence back to where the ball is. You might put the half 2-in on the open for kick-offs but it's less of a thing.

I picked a random game from this year where I knew the Sharks took plenty of kick-offs (round 6) and watched them all. In every instance the half on the side they kick the ball to was on the wing and the other one was in his regular position 3-in. The exception was the short kick-off, where the job of the half on that side is to not chase, so that he can cover defend in the event that the opposition breaks the line (he is also is a handy position to collect a longish bat-back).

This game was 100% Tricky on the wing from kick-offs (except the short one). Sharks tend to put long kick-offs always to that left corner for whatever reason, so it might take a bit more effort to find an example of Hynes doing the same (if anyone can be bothered).

It's also common for the half to defend 2-in in other situations but it is field-position specific both North-South and East-West.

Well im clearly not watching our line too closely haha
Probably commenting on here instead until the balls being caught

Think he was on camera having a drink just over the sideline just before the one I noticed so was paying extra attention to him at that point.

Not to take away from Tricky’s play… but they tweaked the way they measure try assists this season. Comparing to previous seasons isn’t really apples to apples. There are probably a few guys across the league who are getting a bump from the changes.

Main thing is the is someone is getting the try assist stat it means the team is scoring lots of tries :)

Did they?

SC went from using Foxs stats to using NRLs. The comparison would depend on which is being compared, but I’m not sure if either changed?

I thought try assists were measured as before but that the try involvement stat had a broader definition.
I've learned somehting.

I thought he was pretty scrappy (as a negative). But we kept putting ourselves in good positions to find success and he finished enough off.

The kicks were pinpoint.

Certainly not bad overall, and did seem to shake his early wobbles.

A little disjointed at the start. I thought he grew into the game as it went on.
