Yep. Early in his stint, he did to set up his winger for a try and this place exploded as if he was prime Meninga.
He did it probably a handful of times.
This is how starved we'd been of a decent player for a few years.
No problem if you don't remember it, I'd rather forget all about it myself too.

They reckon some players used to deliberately stand close to the ref and rev the team up with positive talk in the last 5 minutes of the game. Ref would come off and give that bloke some votes because he was fresh in their mind.

I don't think it's that bad, but you'll also still have the same issues that arise from it being an award evaluated by media pundits.

You really need the NRL to take it over and form a committee to evaluate all the games.

I'd go with Flanno's idea, but have two teams of evaluators made up of high-achieving former players who have retired within 10 years. Have a former fullback, outside back, half, hooker, middle and edge on each panel. Have them evaluate all the games every second week.

A bit of cash from the NRL to do this for the year, and you should end up with a pretty accurate/unbiased view to fairly rate everyone.
