Yeah that would be ok also.

I said SJ 7 and Moylan 6 only because thats what Hannay might actually do.

I'd like to see Trindall starting, even in the backrow.

I’m fine with that.
I’ve always been open to a “ball playing lock” (as back in the 70’s - 80’s eras, Gavin Miller type player).
Bird could have been that for us when he was here. Trindall might work (although a bit smaller in size).

In an ideal world later in year
Trindall half , Johnno 5/8 and Moylan bench
Chad showcasing his skills at Henson Park

This from yesterday's SMH article. Sounds like Hannay's open to dropping Chad, but while the journo mentions 'factoring in the future' it'll only be if he thinks it'll help us win games this year.

Caretaker Cronulla coach Josh Hannay has total control over team selections - not Fitzgibbon - until the end of the year, and is determined to pick the best 17 players he thinks can win, while also factoring in the future and which players will be at the club beyond this year.

As for picking Townsend the rest of the year, ahead of a youngster like Trindall, Hannay said: “When Chad first signed with the Cowboys I told him, ‘This won’t be held against you and we will always pick the 17 that we feel gives us the best chance of winning, and if it’s you, you’ll get picked’. In the same way Chad made a decision that was in his best interests, as a club we reserve the right to make decisions that are in our best interests.”

I think Hannay has made it clear that he's open to making changes based on performance, and there is no reason for Chad to be exempt from that. He dropped Dugan, but kept Hiroti and Tracey. He also dropped Hess last year, moved Holmes from fullback to wing, and put Gavin Cooper on the bench.

All this quote says is that he won't be dropping Chad BECAUSE he has signed elsewhere - which is the right move.

The right move in terms of winning games this year, sure. But I'd be keen for us to turn our attention to the future as soon as finals are beyond reach.

I don't think anyone is arguing with that. While the finals are in reach though, keep trying to win. Victories for the Sharks, Eels and Storm this weekend would result in a 4 point gap between 6th and 14th.

I have been thinking it's possible new coach has asked for Trindall to play in this role, as the 14 and possible running lock.

May have been interested in having a ball handling 13 (he is used to Radley) in preparation for McInnes coming.

May also be the case that the difficult to see but loved by coaches #1 skills Chad has (executing gameplan) is not a developed skill of Trindalls.
Trindall at lock allows Chad to still do this AND allows Trindall on with Chad to see/hear it action to help his development in this area.
Being able to start to replicate how good Chad apparently is at this would be a big help for Trindall securing more field time.

Yep. All of this + takes pressure off Trindall. He can just do his thing without the pressure that comes with wearing #7. It's the preferred way imo.

Perhaps Trindall will even be the mythical one to direct the team around so well it stands out on highlight reels even when our forward pack are being dominated and we can't hold the ball.

Will also be great to have someone who can kick it over the fullback’s head from his own 20 off a slow play the ball, and will never miss a tackle in his career.

if he can point with his finger and his voice box works then yea he can 'direct the team around'

if he can throw inside balls and put in **** kicks then yea he can 'game manage'

if he can run with pace from first receiver despite a slow play the ball... oh wait Chad can't do that

If Trindall is afforded as many excuses as Chad he will have no trouble at all holding down a spot

If Trindall can play at 13 when he comes on, why not do it from the start and make Toby an edge forward and leave Nikora on the bench.

This statement is very unclear to me

Are you saying we should start Trindall at 13 and leave him there for the game, starting Toby on the edge to interchange with Nikora?
Or start Trindall at 13 and Toby on edge but then Nikora comes on for one or the other and then probably there is another interchange later?

The statement has three very different players playing two different positions only one of whom is an 80 minute forward, and he is the one you've put on the bench.

It works better against tired forwards than it does against fresh ones who love smashing halfbacks.

Personally I would have Woods (or Magoulias) playing lock to start the game, and would still be having short passes between forwards early (Woods did this a bit last season but not as much this year).

Calls himself a Sam Walker type player... Whoah there buddy! Must have the same PR manager as Chris Sandown

Why is that hard to believe ? He plays eyes up and instinctive and likes to play outside the structure. I don’t understand ?

You put Trindall in that Roosters line up and he would light it up almost anyone would.

On another note - Thank God Townsend is leaving

In that he wants his lock to do half his job for him?

Obviously except for Flanju
Or Lam
Or Hutchison
Or Lamb
... or presumably Trindall because they didn’t want to sign him when he was off contract...

There’s a difference between them going well enough to make almost anyone look good and that player necessarily being good

harsh on hutchison, he has been outstanding for them this

sidenote: trindall will be our 7 next year

I remember last year when a lot of you on here said Tracey would be our 7 before Trindall would..
