Liked what I saw tonight. Definitely something to build on.

I’m in no way giving up on Dillion as a first grader. I think he can get better. But for the time being, maybe Uele has jumped in front of him in the queue. Maybe.

Thoughts?

Uele was great.

Definitely above Dillon for mine

Dillon needs to work on his lateral movement in defence if he wants to be a regular first grader. Uele from what we saw yesterday is a little ahead of Dillon in that department but I'd say both are a chance of being NRL mainstays.

The two players are very close in age, have come highly rated from the lower grades, and had very good form at the back end of 2017.

Made the nsw cup team of the weak for the 3rd time this season. From what I read the bloke had a massive game.,

I am still hopeful he will develop into a solid first grader. If we don't recruit another prop I would expect him to get a few first grade games next year.

Hoping for the same thing!

Still very doable to break into first grade here. If Gal retires, Prior is likely to move to lock. Paulo gone too elevating Jack Williams to bench for sure. Woods will be starting alongside Fifita. Its a battle with Ava.

14. Jack Williams
15. Seggy / Brailey jnr
16. Bukuya
17. Ava / Uele

some good carries tonight as I expect from him but his defense is kinda sus. not just the cornder try

needs more FG games and time in the system and around the older heads, still should be played over Sorro

Uele got to Cordner as he was scoring, don’t think there was much he could have done.

It was SJ and Nikora making initial tackle Cordner broke and then Dugan has a slight opportunity to stop him also

My bad fellas, I was thinking off the Teddy try after Uele's failed tackle on latrell

seemed to get a shot on him with his shoulder but was just bumped away

Watching back he does fall off of Mitchell to help Teddy score.

Give him the benefit of the double a little on that one as it's Latrell's spin move that beats him as much as anything.
As Latrell is an elite back and Uele is a 3rd game big fella I won't hold that miss against him too much although overall he made 13 missed 3 so not great.

Side note the stats on the NRL site are pretty comprehensive, I didn't realise. Even includes play the ball speed.

dont get me wrong bort, I am a Uele fan and have wanted a spot for him in firsts all year. I really like his carries but defense and fitness is where he needs to keep improving

All good I'm just trying to put some numbers/evidence around the idea his defence was a bit suss so I can see for myself if I think that it is an issue.

At 13 made 3 missed it's definitely at least a little suss (but not horrific) and an area he can improve on.

This bloke has heaps of potential but is well short of first grade match fitness.

Needs to get rid of the jelly belly and work real hard on his aerobic fitness,

The really good thing about Ava last year was that he was playing his 20-25 minutes and you almost never noticed him. No storming runs or standout plays but he got through his minutes contributing with some good work rate while also conceding no penalties, no dropped balls, and no glaring misses. That’s what you need from a bloke playing 20 off the bench.

The fact that Uele had one bad miss and one dropped ball in his short stint means for mine he didn’t do his job and his coach wouldn’t be happy with him. I don’t need to look at the stats.

Not specifically. I'd be happy either way for our 20 minute prop to be an efficient grinder or someone who comes in and might make a mistake but makes an impact, as long as the net value either way is positive to us.
I think there is probably more expectation on Uele to make an impact than Ava but we will see how he develops over time.

Ava had played 100 games before he came to us and Uele is now on 3 - this certainly doesn't mean you can't compare them, but is a relevant factor when judging Uele.
I can forgive a third gamer for a dropped ball (we are worst in the comp as a team aren't we?) and a missed tackle on Latrell.

I don't think J Mo would have been overly disappointed with Uele's effort for that game however he will need to improve on that if he wants to be in our side once players start coming back from injury.
