Been obvious for a while, and everyone was saying it beforehand, but Blake >>>> Jayden
Jayden really kicked on at Newcastle after playing 70 games with us. Coincidentally Blayke has now played 70 games with us too. Blayke has been good all year, but its interesting that they have both taken a step up around the same time in their careers. It's unfortunate Jayden has had such bad injuries. It would be nice for them both to be playing to compare.

So Cooks the NSW incumbent (31 this year). Api is the “next in line” but he turns 30 this year and off to the Tigers.

Is there anyone else knocking on the door or are we going to lose this guy every year at origin time in a couple years?
Jayden, Blayke… even Reece Robson showing some signs atm

Someone else could emerge in next couple years

"Playing within himself" under the Morris/Hannay rein looks pretty over rated now. I get he was still building his fitness and confidence to be an 80 min player but the Chad/SJ run team needed more of this sort of game from Blayke . When he plays like that who cares if he doesn't kick much he has taken enough pressure off the halves that they can manage it. If he puts in a good kick or adds it to his regular tool bag its a bonus

Halves just can't do it themselves anymore , not even when you throw in the fullback. You need a hooker giving you something in attack to cause problems around the ruck and disrupt the defense, force some decisions, not to mention quick service

Blayke at his best is better than Jayden at his best from what I have seen. Consistency and confidence has been Blaykes problem but this season he is having more good games than bad. He lifts the whole team when he plays well. Hynes & Mozza get the wraps but Blayke is key

What I don’t get about Blayke is there are some games where like yesterday he’s all over it and then there’s games like last week where he’s invisible.

I hear all the we have to be winning the ruck etc but reality is we don’t win the ruck in every game and the qualities of good players is that they are there competing and making plays regardless of the game situation and they make things happen, similar to Hynes.. I would love to see more of our players be like this

Brailey stepped in because Hynes has having a shocker (seems the half time speech had an effect though).

I'm not going to blame Brailz for not being creative enough from hooker. Even the team is going badly

Last time I checked Blayke Brailey was 3rd on this forum's Leader Board before the game on Sunday & I note players by name of Blayke and Brailey feature on most forum members 3/2/1 points this week so I would think Blayke Brailey is doing okay this season.

That was the most blatent penalty when the marker grabbed his arm and the offside rooster was able to intercept while we were on their line.

Yeah that one pissed me off as they always penalise it.

If he's firing he's a game changer. Too hesitant or something too often but. I know we're missing some top line go forward for him to work off but he's the #9 and gotta find ways to get it happening a bit more.

Said this last week, we needed more from him last night.

There’s times you don’t even notice him for long periods of the game

other than a couple passes and runs didn't have that much impact on the game as a whole and couldn't even seemingly find him on the field at times (at least not in the frame).

His tackles were under 40 this week so don't think it was fatigue as he can manage more tackles than that while still being a factor in attack.

Good thing Mcinnes and Trindall are stepping up but there is no susbstitite for a quality performance from your hooker. Not all on Brailz, our halves struggled alot of that game too.

Close to the line our attack is faltering I wonder if we need to give Brailz a couple more plays in these situations see what he can do. Needs to find ways to get himself into the game when things arn't going our way on our forwards are on the back foot. He tried to at times and I thought he actually earnt himself a penalty or 2 around the ruck but ref didn't give it.
