I prefer Blayke to Jayden, but yeah I know that aint gonna happen
Why? In my opinion, Blayke has the bigger upside. He's quicker, his passes are very accurate and what I love about the kid is his complete calmness - Mr Cool personified. I think his one obvious negative compared to Jayden is that he's very light and very big opponents may exploit that. Blayke needs eat up big and to put on about 8 - 10 Kg.

Yeah our bench the last 2 games with no hooker has been so good, if not the best in the comp it's very close.

Shame he didn't run it more, big ask over his first full game though.

Exactly, first game playing 80 I think he was always going to conserve energy. Started to run more near the end, perhaps he realized he had enough in the tank.

I'd rest Jayden for the Dogs game too, give him another 80 minute game.

Overall I think he was good, defended well, nice service a few nice runs too. Definitely looks better running.

Made 45 tackles, with one miss. Pretty good. I think over time we're not going to lose anything defensively compared to Jayden but gain a whole lot more in all other areas.

Blayke > Jayden by the length of my post count

Thought you were going to say something else there. Post count was the better option.

Yep I think it's clear Blayke is up to it and we don't need a hooker on the bench.

Can someone with a better memory than mine remind if Jayden played any 80 minute games in his first season?

I recall he might have played a few but can't remember if it was his first season of later on.

I just took the time to check rugby league project. There was always cover on the bench, but if there was another injury that cover may have meant he did.

For example Paulo may have gone and covered an injury somewhere else and then he would have played 80 presumably.

There are two big differences between the brothers:

- Blayke had a full season in NSW Cup and Jayden played back when clubs kept their top end talent in 20’s. The state cups
have always been a better way to develop players, but in particular forwards and halves (outside backs seem to be a common exception).
- Blayke came in to first grade when he was ready rather than because his club was desperate

I would also have like to have seen Blayke run a couple more times against Canberra, but there seems to be a bit of a misconception on here about the type of player he is. He’s not a scooter; he can scoot from time to time when the chance presents itself but the reason he is considered such an attacking player is because he is smart and can engage the markers before giving the runners the ball. Think Mick Ennis more than Mick Sullivan.

Blayke was playing NSW cup at a younger age too, but that's because I believe the club feels he is the better brother and was better for his development.

Do that many people think he's a scooter ? He's just got a far better running game than his brother, but yeah he's more of a play making hooker. That shift he did which caused the overlap for Dugan's second try was nice.

I'm glad they chose Blayke over Jayden, was concerned we'd lose Blayke.

Really nice problem to have. Would be good to alternate them, horses for course, depending on the opposition. Would be harder for opponents to prepare come finals time also.

From people saying he’s the more dynamic hooker I assumed he ran a lot more, not necessarily just as an opportunistic scoot but also just getting out to engage the markers

Blayke was playing NSW Cup at 19 because the salary cap and feeder structure changed (and also some attitudes changed) between 2017 and 2018. When the NYC existed there were some other reasons why teams kept players in 20’s rather than played them up in NSW Cup.

Now that the NYC is gone the Sharks and many other teams have now taken the Bennett/Bellamy approach: your best u20 players should be playing against men ASAP. That wasn’t the case when Jayden was an u20 player.

so was his service, just so crisp and on point

his brother could learn a thing or 2 off him

I thought Jayden was playing pretty well this year , the shackles were off .
Clever darts from dummy half , crisp ball service .
Not arguing the fact that Brayke is or will be better .
But still feel Jayden is still going to be a top 6 hooker in NRL when he hits his straps in a few years time .
Are you being a tad harsh on your opinion of him like with Chad prior to this season ?

You can't say Jayden doesn't provide slick service. Going from what I saw on the weekend he's still in front of Blayke in that area.
