DT have edited their article.

I did see it say “upwards of $2.5 million” earlier today.

$525k does sound a lot better, hopefully we are calling it a bargain in 2 years time when he’s top 5 hooker under Fitz

Because he was injured which makes him hard to sell
So your example was accurate but not really the circumstances I think Sparkles had in mind.

I think he is talking more like us getting Aaron Woods for a good price (debatable, I am sure) because he was underperforming Bulldogs contract, I think it would have been a different story if the issue had been he was injured 50% of the time. I'd hope we would have been less interested.

There was also interest from potentially both parties for Fifita to take other opportunities too but similarly it becomes a lot harder when the issue is ****s ****ed.

No argument on Dugan being not a great example?

(will have to self filter that profanity haha)
We shopped Dugan around well before then. From memory back to Canberra but they weren't interested.

I get the sentiment, but the Brailey deal isn't the same. First it is on 2/3 the cash. Causing less strain. Second its one of the positions with the least depth in talent across the league, compared to centres and fullbacks that are way easier to fill.

We’re never going to know what the real figure is so I’m not going to worry about it for now. It’s all speculation. We just have to hope we haven’t forked out too much.

I think it’s more a case of we just have to hope that he takes his game to another level. There is every chance he does that given our new signings and a change in coaching.

Maybe this is the word that the Hectic Cheese kept saying in his interview.

I'm talking last year when we shopped him around, his own manager said there was no interest.

Put it in context, I was replying to @Sparkles saying clubs can move players on under contract if they want to. Doesn't always happen as was evident with Moylan last year.
More often than not though, unless the bloke is seriously damage goods... And you have to be pretty damaged in the NRL not to get a rerun somewhere. Duges was

The money only slightly raises the brow, but I'll always sigh a little at a four year deal unless it's for a proven gun more in the middle than start or end of their career. But in todays NRL these kinds of contracts seem all the rage, so I guess we've done what we thought we needed to do to be competitve
If you look at all these current new deals happening, I think 625k is pretty small compared to what a few of these other younger players are getting these days. I'm honestly not fussed with 4yrs, we all know that these days all players these days all they care about is money, there is hardly anymore loyalty in the game anymore. Anyone would jump at that chance that stuff. 4yrs he may not even stay that long anyway if a club offers him more in 3yrs time.

I’m under the opinion it’s $500k, $550, $600, $650 $2.3 mill over 4 years with extras if he plays rep footy.

$650 in 5 years with cap increases isn’t that bad.

Not saying it is the same, was merely responding to Sparkles about clubs moving players on.

That’s big boy money. Money like that will give him accountability. I think he will rise to it. Bit of confidence with team mates and structure, happy days

Moylan got a contract extension so how did that not work out ?

Dugan well that's super coach Flanno not having a plan and panic buying when we lost Bird.

If you're comparing a 23 year old hooker who's making less to Dugan's contract well I think that's pretty silly.
You know what's funny .. Over both of their time at the Sharks Dugan is the one who added more value then Moylan did

and a massive financial and cap commitment on our part for a kid that is pretty average at this point of time but I do feel he is more likely to improve from here on out than regress or stay the same. I can understand the confidence placed in him, Blayke gives off bit of a vibe that it won't be misplaced even if he hasn't performed consistently at NRL level yet.

he will be in arguably his best sharks squad yet with potentially the best coaching staff behind him

regardless I am glad we have McCinnes not just as backup but to put pressure on Blayke
Agree - calling it how it is. He has been average, needs to step up

Little fella might need to get a competitive edge my nefarious means. Squirrel grips, eye pokes, joint-locking, maybe slather himself in foul smelling grease from the Toup Kitchen like James Graham used to do.Toup Kitchen grease, as worn by James Graham.jpg

He will step up. The same words were written for Will last year and look where he is right now. I choose to think positive until he proves me otherwise.

Correct - Apologies can be sent via PM

It's standard fair for varying $ figures to be thrown around in the media after a player signs and/or new information comes to light.
I mean **** the media are still adjusting what money they think Chad Townsend is on

We don't really know what these figures consist of or are built up from (bonuses, 3rd party ect) which can also lead to variance or misunderstanding in the numbers reported

I think Brailey was in line to get a contract like this regardless of who our coach was

But if he was so keen to stay at the Sharks I just wonder if we would have got away with giving him like a 2 year deal and re access in a few seasons

If he turns out to be good it will appear a boss move from the club to lock him down for 4 extra seasons but if he doesn't we will look like turkeys and will struggle to move him on at full freight

He's young and all and seems resistant to injury so I get the length of the deal but he won't be young forever and we didn't hear much in the way of rumours of over clubs clamoring over each other to secure his services even considering the shortage of hookers on the market

In theory we should have him through some of his best years but he is the one that has to lift his game ultimately

I could go either way on this one

Brailey always needed a long term deal. It was the smart thing to do to lock him up whilst entering his peak. Seems to be a good bloke and he is one of the best up and coming hookers in the game. People like to simply blow their load on someone who is already a big name. In the next couple of years we will look back on this signing and say how good it was to lock him up.

I can think of better up and coming hookers around his age who are already displaying their quality, not waiting to show their promise and deliver on the hype
