Do we keep him or look at Taj Brailey and/or Jnr Healey to start looking at filling that role now?

Maybe they are still a season or 2 away?
Healey and Wilson still a couple years away easily. Could fill in a game or two and probably go play but I think be an issue if Blayke was out for an extended period.

Taj even further off, from what I’d expected.

Fact Berrell hasn’t signed elsewhere yet probably a good sign of retention. Worth trying to retain for another 1-2

I'm not a fan of having 2 hookers with the squad we currently have. We can't waste a bench spot for that.

Being that we have one of the best hookers in the comp it'd be a waste to sign a hooker that is above NSW Cup level.

Injuries aside.

I like Blake, but two crucial misses with the dropped ball in-goal and the poor pass leading to Hynes' blocked field goal capped off a rather uneven performance.

I like Brailey, don't get me wrong, his only young too but it baffles me considering how young & quick he is, he chooses not to go for the quick dart out of dummy half more often like Brendan Smith did against us & got 20-30 easy metres by quickly darting out. Hes passing can be quite iffy quite a few times too unfortunately.

The near 10kg difference and recognised power running game probably factors.

If Blayke gets caught it’s often a slow PTB
Cheese can force out extra yards and much more likely to get a quick PTB.

‘He should just take more 20-30 meter runs’ is actually a pretty big ask of any player

Cheese isn’t always the best hooker but he’s definitely a good ball runner

Maybe I should have narrowed it down to 10-20mtrs then. Brailey is much quicker then "Cheese", I think if he attempts it more often he may be able to get a few easy metres like a lot of hookers do these days.

We had been setting up left and then playing back inside though the middle / right in the first half. It was drawing defenders inside and help us put on our first try out to the right with Katoa when we spread and threw it that way

Blayke was either in training mode not playing eyes up with his head still in the first half or was trying to be tricky and catch everyone off guard (including team mates) by playing away from the overlap. Players make the wrong calls on these situations from time to time but he should have been paying more attention and had better situational awareness.

Wouldn't have mattered if he caught that bouncing kick though - that was the game right there in his finger tips.

Dunno if he thought a Roosters player was right behind him about to challenge for the ball but be he is short and shouldn't have taken a grab at like that and been a bit more patient let it come to him, he had time IMO.

2 big game, big moments he didn't nail. oh and the crap pass to Nicho for the field goal attempt

Brailey has the Chad golden ticket to weekly selection and while not a terrible player and good on his day IMO he is the most over rated player in our squad

He's too chill and doesn't scheme enough or have that killer instinct mentality which adds to his other flaws and deficiencies.

He should be better and he can be better but he just isn't. He needs someone different to Ennis and Fitz to unlock his potential.

He needs competition to keep him honest and heck give him bit of a breather wouldn't hurt. Our 4th benchy is just a cameo role, we can use that spot for another hooker.

Agreed for the most part. I think the bolded bit is his biggest weakness (at least from where we stand). And to his detriment, the fact he looks like he never breaks a sweat doesn't help.
I'm not convinced we need to carry a bench hooker though, especially with McInnes in the starting lineup. Anyway, Blake is an 80mn player to whom it matters most, the coach.

Don’t have to have the extra hooker, but could work a way to give him a bit of a rest into our structures. Have noticed we already do that a bit, he’s walking back with the forwards inside the 20. All it would take is just having someone else duck in there at a certain spot on the field ,and we’ve done that at times too.

Lazy, according to snowman he should be at dummy half for every single play the ball.

Really feel like we should of blooded Berrell as a benchie in first grade this year. I still feel like Brailey will benefit from reduced minutes.

Ah well. Hard to imagine Berrell sticks around next year if he’s stuck in Ressies again. I havent seen any announcement on his future.
Still no evidence that this would be the case. A feeling is just a feeling.

I agree on Berrell.

Most likely scenario will be Healey at the Jets with Wilson and Taj splitting time in Flegg.

Healey won't be Flegg eligible next year, but is currently unsigned for 2024. Taj is under contract for next year. Unsure on Wilson.
