Bell, Waters back for Dirawongs

THE boys are back.
The stars of Northern United’s lethal 2009 backline, Roy Bell and Fred Waters, are set to return for the Dirawongs in the NRRRL against Byron Bay at Crozier Field, Lismore, tomorrow.
The pair have been released from Queensland Cup club Norths Devils.
Bell has been training with United for two weeks and is named at fullback; Waters has received a clearance to play but has not been named in first grade.
Coach Chris Binge played his cards close to his chest yesterday when asked about the record-breaking winger.
“Fred will make his return for the club in some capacity this weekend,” Binge said.
Reserve grade and/or a first-grade bench spot await.
Bell, though, has slotted straight back into his role at the club and is sure to cause Byron some headaches after being stuck in Queensland Cup reserve grade.
Binge said his backline was now starting to look as lethal as that which swept the Dirawongs to the grand final last year.
“It is a far more balanced looking backline this year,” he said.
“There aren’t many left from last year but we now have the calibre of players to get back to where we were.”
One man who was there last year, Clarence Kelly – fresh from a four-try haul – will have his first game against the Dirawongs since returning to Byron Bay for 2010.
Binge knows how deadly Kelly can be but is instructing his players to concentrate on their own game. “If we get our business in order then hopefully we will factor whatever Clarence does out of the game.”
In other fixtures tomorrow:
• Kyogle face the monumental task of knocking off heavyweights Grafton Ghosts. The winless Turkeys’ horror injury toll continues to mount with captain-coach Don Walker’s ribs the latest casualty. Rod Graham will captain the side in Walker’s absence. Positive news for Kyogle is that Ghosts’ star Danny Wicks is out for a week with a hamstring strain.
• Ballina Seagulls will welcome Ed Killingbeck back to the fold as they look to continue their unbeaten run when they travel to Yamba to take on Lower Clarence. Killingbeck will play his first match for the Seagulls since the 2008 grand final at the expense of Scott McClellend, who is gone for the season after breaking his ankle. Stints with the Melbourne Storm and Cronulla Sharks are sure to have Killingbeck firing on all cylinders.
• Casino travel to Grafton to take on the wounded Rhinos. The Cougars, still looking for their first win of 2010, have promoted big Jacob Ngauamo to the front-row after a solid debut.
• Evans Head have lost creative back-rower Jack Wythes to a minor shoulder injury for their away clash with Cudgen. Eddie Solomona returns to the side.
All games are due to kick off at 2.45pm.
