Not necessarily Sharks-related, but throwing ASSRL Content into a thread for future reference.

Qld teams have been named. NSWCHS has been named but I haven't seen the full team list yet.

Queensland Maroon U18 2026

Big win for NSWCHS in their first game (Challenor, Curran, Wooldridge). They play Qld Maroon tomorrow. Possibly a preview of the final. Two stacked teams.

NSWCCC have won both games too. No Sharks in that squad though.

A strong start by CHS - Curran played limited game time as probably being saved for today's big one against one of Qld teams.

Challenor had a blinder and was a class above - ran them around beautifully, is always in background directing traffic. He ran the ball a bit more than normal as well with some good results - one break and 30 metre run with a one handed offload was an unlucky missed try - and his inside ball to one of the Hunter second rowers for him to score untouched was as good as you will see.

Today should be interesting - the two Qld sides are very strong

Thanks mate.

Yeah - Qld teams are stacked. I didn't watch round 1 but will watch CHS v Maroon live this arvo. I've seen a fair bit of the Qld boys over the last 18 months too. Both strong sides.

CHS boys start with a bang

It was the Liam Challenor show on Day 4 of the ASSRL National Championships, as NSW CHS’s talent was on full display to kickstart its campaign in the under-18s with an emphatic 52-0 victory over CAS.

The scheming half was all over the opposition, popping up on the left, right, and down the middle with a hand in just about everything that came through the Sky Blues.

His teammate Curtis Mulherin, a massive member of Newcastle’s SG Ball squad this year, was just as effective down the right-hand side with his damaging line speed and step, finding space and time with each carry.

Cronulla and Endeavour Sports prop Jamie Curran’s foundational work through the middle was understated, with imposing hit-ups off the back of immense work from hooker Jireh-Trey Stewart taking the sting out of CAS’s defence to consistently help his side up the field.

Play of the day​

There was no nicer moment than late in the first half when Challenor, drifting right for the CHS under-18s, turned his body and fooled everyone with a deft pass to the inside run of Curtis Mulherin, putting the second-rower over virtually untouched.

It could be Sharks to win in 1973, or Sharks to win and born in 73, ir Sharks to win and I'm aged 73, or Sharks to win and i hit the wrong buttons by accident!!!
 
NSWCHS up 18-4 at half time over Qld Maroon.

Challenor not heavily involved but nice work on the first try. Qld halves have been poor this game so you'd have to think he has the chocolates over them at this point.

He does a lot of things in background & off ball - defence is very strong. Some good players out there - the 11 is a Hunter/Newcastle kid - he's outstanding.
Curran just walked through them

Yeah 11 (Curtis Mulherin) is a shoe-for Aussie Schoolboys after this effort.

The rout is on. Some paper thin defence from Qld in this game.

Hard when you make a few errors and are going backwards.
CHS made a few errors early but were able to ride our defensively.
Since then all over them.
Challenor and Curran were both good when game was tougher
Matt Galvin is making strong progress in refereeing ranks - he has this game
 
Two interesting semis yesterday - and an all NSW final with CHS v CCC.

CHS remain dominant and will go in as favourites but CCC found a way to win yesterday and should be a great GF.

Challenor and Butler (the two halves) have both been first class - see them in halves for Australian Schoolboys although others willl be in running as well. Challenor had another great game - he was described in media coverage as understated (or not overplaying his hand) and guiding his team around field. He received the player of the match award for CHS. Set up a couple of tries and his defence is outstanding. But Chase Butler is very good, a different player, but very talented.

Curran is doing the normal things Curran does - and often things other middles can't do. I would hope he gets a green and gold jumper as well, together with Mulherin in CHS 2nd row. The CHS fullback and both hookers have also been great - but many good players on both teams. Wooldridge has been good off bench - we should be proud of our three Sharks reps.

Final is tomorrow afternoon with Australian team named following.

I’ve felt this way about Challenor for a while. A lot of the young halves have flair and take a lot of risks. Challenor is still creative and skilled but plays calm.

It’s an interesting case in a rep trail. The individual flair gets players noticed but Challenor is the best at doing the little things that help the team win.

We all know that the teams don’t just get picked on how the players perform at this carnival though. The selectors have kids in mind before a ball is kicked. I could definitely see one/both of Harris-Tevita or Webb making the side on reputation. Webb possibly as a bench option because he has some utility value. Plays lock for Wavell and is quick enough to defend in the centres in a pinch.

I don’t know of any the Qld team but I know of players who were in the Qld state carnival this year who didn’t play any trials and were placed into their teams based on having an NRL contract or being in a QRL u17’s team.
