Yep disappointing, but when nearly your whole team is signed from other clubs, you can't really complain.

It's the right move for Fifita... watching him when he walks down the sideline, I don't know how long those legs can hold that body up. He needs to take the guaranteed $.
The roosters have been doing it for years. Just a bit better than most teams recently.

So Dogs fans aren't happy with Fifita's signing. Here's a couple of posts typical of their thinking. I agree with them.

800k for a forward. What a waste! We already have one of the best forward packs in the game yet again were signing and spending 800k on a forward. Kleemer? Pritchard? Eastwood? Kasiano? Graham? T-rex? ( glad to see him have a go on friday) and the list goes on.

On top of that we got really good players coming through the ranks! We should have paid falou what he wanted if thats the case....

I am getting cranky, why would we want to pay that much for another forward when we already have an awesome forward pack?

I don't get it,
That kind of money on a forward when we already have 600k tied up in T. rex leaves bugger all left over for the rest of our squad, especially when we desperately need quality spine and back line.

I am really going mad trying to figure it out.

Sound familiar?

What i dont believe is the figure. The Sharks tabled their offer on Friday of 700k (or there abouts) The bulldogs countered on Saturday which is meant to be the offer he signed or will sign, which is 850,000……..why would the dogs counter 150,000 a season higher than us…….that just wouldnt happen

This is where a crafty manager comes in. He gets an offer from the Sharks goes to the dogs and says they have offered $100k more then you guys if you want him you need to bump it up.

We were beaten by a lot more than 50K his new management earned their commission.

So let's say they're paying 850k. What's the most that can be included as third party payments from that?

The Rooster have no juniors to develop.
They may not all be 100% juniors but the roosters have developed youth well recently

Mitchell Pearce
Mini
Daniel Tupou
Shaun Kenny-Dowall
Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
jake Friend
Boyd Cordner
Mitchell Aubusson
Dylan Napa

Made their first grade debuts with the club. We can't bag them for buying a side.

Depends on how smart you are. Individual arrangements with external non sponsors don't come in the cap.

The club has $600K it is allowed to use as what we know as third party deals so if they wanted to they could pay him a smaller contract and have one of their sponsors tip in $300k or $400k a year.

Fifita's management is smart too they knocked back offers that included a car (you can supply up to $100,000 in car allowances) they took cash only.

apparently it's only 550k in the cap and the rest in 3rd party sponsors

BS if that's true. What is the point in having a salary cap in the first place?

That argument was put forward by the smaller clubs but they still upped the amount anyway. Basically if you have the connections and the money you can have the player.

SBW is getting a million a year but the roosters cap doesn't suffer because they use all their $600k on him but tbh he is worth it won them a comp and probably will again this year.

See I don't know about this. You're telling me if a club was lucky enough to have a billionaire benefactor, they could sign a player for 600k under the cap and their benefactor could then pay the player another 700k to endorse whatever? Where does this end? Could they do this for 5 players? 8 players?

There must be some kind of a cap.

Nope they have a TOTAL of $600k a season in third party deals. They can use that as they wish. Either on many players or as the roosters have done on one.

BUT if you have a billionaire who was not directly associated with the club in an official capacity who out of the goodness of his/her heart wanted to play a player a sum of money well the NRL has no power over that.

Brisbane and the "Thoroughbreds" Newcastle and the "White Knights" to name a few have been known in the past to pay a sum up front to a player they wanted to keep to keep it out of the cap.

I thought it was 150k per player and it was only allowed for a limited number of players. I could be living in the past though.

It would explain why we offered 700 and the dogs 850 as well.

Just quietly... the bloke has **** for brains, getting into twitter arguments with people giving him **** and trying to retweet people who are supporting him.

Every shark fan and his dog is going to have different opinions on what he should do, whether its kicking the fans in the guts, whether its part of the business.

He really should ignore all that rubbish and just play footy.

Reeks to me of a semi guilty conscience, but either way most players just move on and play footy, he needs to do that.

I have real trouble understanding why players get on twitter and instagram at all. Dumb move I think. Opens themselves up to all sorts of abuse.
