I have a feeling, or is it just my sharkies glasses, that Fafita will now slide and will be a flop at the doggies

I said that last year when everyone started talkin about his re-signing. I dont think he will have a 2013 year again.

But to be honest i dont care.

So long, leave mid year if possible. Let's sign a prop that runs forward.

[h=1]Fifita set to leave Cronulla, but can you blame him?[/h]
Columnist
By greg prichard, 11 Mar 2014

Things have gone from bad to worse to tragic for Cronulla, with the news Andrew Fifita will leave the club at the end of the season.

Bad was when the Sharks became the focal point of the ASADA investigation into rugby league. Worse was when the NRL hammered the club with a $1 million fine and suspended its coach, Shane Flanagan, for 12 months. The revelation Fifita will join Canterbury next season is a tragedy for the Sharks, not only because he is one of the hottest players in the game, but because it appears we are now seeing the effect the drama surrounding the club will have on its future.
No-one involved has said as much, but it is only natural to think what has already gone on at Cronulla – and the possibility of more to come, since there is still a chance ASASA will sanction players – had an influence on Fifita’s decision.
Indications are that while Cronulla didn’t quite match the reported figure of $850,000 per season from the Bulldogs, it came close enough to be in that area where a player is prepared to stay with his club for a bit less than what he has been offered to go elsewhere.
Who knows what Fifita will say are his reasons for leaving the Sharks when the reports are confirmed?
But let me ask you this: If you were a star player still with his best years ahead of him and you had the chance to leave a club in turmoil for one with the potential to do big things, wouldn’t you be tempted to go? Particularly when your involvement with that club hasn’t been long-term anyway?
Fifita joined the Sharks in 2012. Wests Tigers no longer wanted him, a decision that club must have regretted a thousand times since. Maybe it was also a decision that convinced Fifita to concentrate on looking after number one in the future, something he’s got every right to do.
Three ex-Cronulla players are suing the club for negligence, their coach is banned and ASADA may not have finished with the club yet.
And their captain, Paul Gallen, is getting old. He turns 33 this year. How well are the Sharks going to be able to recruit for next season, given the circumstances?
Who wouldn’t consider leaving if he had a terrific option somewhere else?
And what impact will Fifita’s impending departure have on the Sharks this season? Players always say they only worry about the season immediately in front of them, but this news has got to be a real downer.
Fifita is arguably the most improved footballer in the game over the last 12 months. He has risen to become a regular in the NSW and Australian teams.
He’s big, yet fast. He’s tough, yet skilled. And he’s only 24, so his best years are still ahead of him.
The word is Cronulla’s promising young hooker, Michael Lichaa, is going to the Bulldogs next season as well.
On top of all of this, the Sharks lost 18-12 at home to Gold Coast in their first-round match last night. Gallen was helped off with a serious ankle injury and Fifita was reported for a shoulder charge.
Who is the malevolent bastard writing this script?

Agree, I want him to do well for us in 2014 but as soon as the fulltime whistle goes in our last game for 2014 see ya later, go earn the adulation from the dogs supporters.

There must be some kind of base human compunction to kick a man while he's down

I didn't read the article but seriously, the Sharks are a pretty half arsed organisation. Some the rot I'm hearing lately...it's hardly inspiring me to renew my membership.

I won't pretend all things are rosie, but he left for a stupid amount of money in a salary capped league. That point really is the crux of the matter. In the end we decided we could spend the money elsewhere. It's disingenuous to paint it like he just up and left.

Yeah if he'd signed we would be spending the next 4 years cursing the fact that we had no money left in our cap. He'll have a bigger belly than George Rose in 2 years, mark my words. (by the way I have one of those and know how they're made)

I wonder if Greenberg gave the bulldogs a hot tip that there will be a marquee player allowance coming in for them to be able to sign him. 850k is a ridiculous amount for a prop

Drop him to NSW cup for the year

Not sure if srs, but, the aim is to play our strongest side every week. Be a gronk move to drop one of our strongest players to reserve grade just because he wont play for us next year. Reeks of sour grapes tbh

He's only our best if he plays his best. Punishing him for acting like a soft cock because he has a cushy contract all lined up is not being sour.

And if we had have matched the dogs for that amount, we would have still received bad publicity for having to pay overs to retain him. There's always a negative spin to it if it involves the sharks.

He will probably be going through post decision anxiety, if we want the best out of him, booing abuse, dropping him to reserve grade etc will have the reverse effect.Let the initial anger go and let's get on with it,let him want to go out on top with us.Take it with dignity.

I said early on I'd be happy for him whatever he chose, that I'd support his choice to look after his family. But that was when he indicated that we, the sharks, were his family. He's basically left us for a difference of 50K per year. That's nothing to sniff at, but from what I've heard it wasn't light years away from what we were offering. At even 650,000+ a year, thats so far beyond what most mortals earn he could have easily supported his family. This is greed and ego on his part, pure and simple. I've lost respect for him, utterly. It's a stark contrast from our boy Todd, who sacrificed a million dollars to play for us. **** Fifita.
