The referee was an adult too, just reffing a teenage game, which is what you would have meant.

They kept calling him a 'junior referee' knowing full well people would interpret that as he was a teenager/kid himself, not an adult police officer (I think) refereeing a junior game.

Because Fifita can be quite emotional and many view him negatively the media knows his stories sell - my concern is people trying to bait him and every time he fires back there's more bad exposure for us, more chance the board need to discipline him and thus more chance he leaves us.

Don't get me wrong I'm very glad to have him, I just know the media like to do negative articles about him. For example him saying he wants Tongan selection to be as celebrated as the top 3 nations being reported as an attack by him on the Sharks not recognising him.

His actions, or how the media decide to interpret them, unfortunately get blown out of proportion.

Fifita gets picked on. Champion bloke who wears his heart on his sleeve.

100% agree

In fact I'm just reading the article about Morris shared by gumby and tatus and the 'reporter' decides to take more jabs at Fifita

Andrew Fifita is the ultimate rugby league enigma – he has the patience of a four-year-old, the temperament of a 14-year-old, the gut of 44-year-old, and he’s one of the best props in the world. His attitude simply wouldn’t be tolerated anywhere else, yet even when he pointed directly at the coaches’ box and gave them a mouthful midway through a game last season, Flanagan and his staff were happy for him to suit up again the following week.

They even decide to attack his body shape in this one - I thought the Dave Taylor incident might have scared everyone off that

Who cares mate. It was written by some nobody on an opinion website, no different to what people post in forums.

My only concern with Fifita is can Morris get the best out of him.

Funny thing, whenever Flanno was asked about Fifita’s attitude, effort and performance, a wry smile would creep across Flanno’s face and he’d have a bit of laugh about his attitude, often give him just enough praise, then give him a bit of kicking with areas he can improve- even when he’d had an outstanding game.

Flanno knew exactly how to handle Fifita , and the psychology behind it. Kinda like a kid who always wants Dad’s love and attention, but Dads’ a bit of mean old bastard and only occasionaly recognises and rewards him. Kid will always keep trying though. Fifita is that kid- desperate for recognition on so many levels.

Flanno would on occasion give him that recognition- but not enough for him to get comfortable.

Always seemed like a bit of psychological game to Flanno and he enjoyed it .

I agree with that.

Good stuff coming from Fifita though, sounds like it'll be a different dynamic with him loving the leadership role and setting an example. Dads gone and he gotta step it up.

He was presented the challenge last year when down on senior troops and he ****ing owned it with a busted leg.

Personally think he'll have a monster season.

Fifita went to **** for a bit when Gal came back and he lost the captaincy - he recovered over time during the season and found some form and more involvement but he also found his poor discipline again

Fifita could eat JMO for breakfast but there will be a different relationship to that he had with Flanno, a different kind of respect I feel

Behavior wise Fifs hasn't really done anything horrible compared to many players but he still needs to play it smarter - the media have a target on his back. Speaking your mind isn't always the best thing when you don't have the golden pass

Fifita was carrying înjuries TBF which affected his form and can also play a part in "discipline" (ie fatigue and mental awareness).
As you pointed out thou, his behaviour hasn't been that bad in comparison to others (other than letting off some steam towards dicks that deserved it).
I think he will be a beacon for us this season.
A "follow me boys" type season given Wades injury and Lewies retirement.

I'm with you, I see a big session coming from Fifita.

He seems to self destruct when things are set up for success. Mentally he seems to respond better to being the underdog and fighting his way through adversity. This could actually be Flanno' s greatest coaching move yet...!

A plan years in the making.

Did the NRL find the emails or were they leaked from inside the coaches office!

This is where Flanno turns to the camera and says, with a southern drawl, "the game isn't just played on the field..."
