I'd like to see Anthony mundine fall asleep in the ring again, and John "Stoppa farty" get smashed by someone.

Solomon Haumono won unanimous decision last night against Sebastian Ceballos. Scores 80-70, 79-71, 79-71.

Judge 1 was kidding himself as Ceballos clearly won the fifth round. Sol was wobbled and was looking extremely tired. Johnny lewis even threatened to throw the towel in between the 5th and 6th.

To his credit though Sol fought back well. His record now stands at 15-0 (14ko's)

Hoppa to take on Big Bob Mirovic later this year.......My prediction is Big Bob to win via death.

Mundine steps into Calzaghe uppercut

Mundine steps into Calzaghe uppercut
Andrew Webster
October 20, 2008

TWO-TIME super-middleweight world champ Anthony Mundine has challenged Joe Calzaghe to step into the ring after the Welsh pug launched a scorching assessment of the Australian in this month's Inside Sport. Calzaghe, who is set to retire after his superbout with Roy Jones jnr next month, tells the magazine: "So what would happen to Mundine? To cut a long story short, I'd knock him out. He wouldn't admit that because he's got a big mouth, but of course I'd knock him out. If I couldn't knock him out, I'd be pretty disappointed. I mean, Sven Ottke knocked him out and he couldn't break an egg." Mundine returned serve when this column read him the remarks yesterday. "My management has been trying to set up a fight with him for two-and-a-half years - and he won't give me a shot," Mundine said. "What has he got to hide? Instead, he's too busy fighting old men. If he's so confident, he should fight me."

mundine is quite inconsiderate usually and he seems to dislike anything concidered a white man thing which is funny cause he's 75% white himself. I wonder how his mother puts up with his racial ignorance and disrespect to women. I also seem to remember him thinking Don Bradman's 99.94 batting average was a percentage.

peachey, it's all a big publicity stunt. Mundine knew exactly what he was doing, he knew it was rememberance day, that's why he chose 11am, that's why he made those comments.

he does it all so that people will hate him, and want to see him get bashed. that way, we tune into his fights.

only he fights hopeless no names, so he gets the last laugh.

if you just ignored him, he wouldn't be so frustrating.

he is very predictable though.

Peachey

You do realise when the Aborigines returned from fighting in the first world war, they weren't even allowed to go into an RSL, with others they fought with. Mundine was making a point here about that.

better get ready for his next PR stunt.

He's somehow gotta pass off The Bulli Blaster Shannon Taylor as a credible opponent early next year.

No offense to Shannon, he has accomplished a fair bit in his career, but the glory days are about 4 years past and i would be surprised if he lasts more than 2 rounds

Mirovic: 'Hoppa is scared to fight me again'
AAP

A furious Bob Mirovic has slammed rival John Hopoate, accusing rugby league's former bad boy of being scared to face him in a national heavyweight title re-match.

The Australian National Boxing Federation has granted the 42-year-old a re-match with Hopoate after he successfully protested he was the victim of illegal tactics during the pair's title fight in September.

Mirovic's cornerman Jeff Fenech tossed in the towel in the ninth round knowing his fighter had broken his arm three rounds earlier.

Hopoate has said he is less than happy about the re-match.

"Perhaps they (boxing officials) enjoy seeing people get hurt, perhaps they want it to happen," he fired in a recent interview.

"I'm scared that if I have to fight him again ... I'm worried I might accidentally kill him."

But Mirovic has laughed at Hopoate's comment saying his rival is frightened to get back in the ring with him.

"He took a long time to recover from that (last) fight and he's scared," Mirovic told Fox Sports on Wednesday.

"We both dug deep in that fight, it was really hard and gruelling.

"I respect that, but I don't respect him at all.

"He can't say he doesn't want to fight me because he's concerned about my safety, he's just too scared.

"Hoppa's not real happy that he has to fight me again.

"I'm going to cause him a lot of pain."

Mirovic said he'd watched the fight "more than a thousand times" and hadn't changed his opinion about Hopoate's tactics.

"He did everything. He threw me around, he broke my arm, he hit me low and headbutted me," said the former Australian champion.

"He showed the whole country his disdain for rules in sport.

"He left rugby league in a very bad way for what he'd done and now he has come to the sport of boxing and disgraced the boxing profession."

Hopoate was disgraced for probing a rival NRL player's backside with his finger in 2001 and was sacked by Manly in 2005 following a 17-week suspension for a sickening high tackle on then-Cronulla forward Keith Galloway.

Mirovic, who believes Hopoate deliberately locked his arm up and broke it in the sixth round, said the referees' performance in their title fight left a lot to be desired.

"He locked my right arm under his left arm, then twisted it and broke my radius in my forearm," Mirovic told AAP.

"Had that fight been refereed in America his licence would have been taken away from him.

"It was disgraceful what he done."

Mirovic said Fenech, a triple world boxing champion, only stopped the fight because he was concerned for his welfare knowing his arm was broken.

"Jeff's only been in my corner a short time and he didn't know my ability to withstand pain," said Mirovic.

"I fought for a world title with a broken jaw for five rounds."

Latest news i have heard is that Hoppa is about to sign on to fight Tommy "The Duke" Morrison in melbourne early this year.

Morrison for those who dont know, was the boxer who played Tommy Gunn from Rocky V. Also was a WBO world Heavyweight champ until lennox Lewis boxed his ears off in 1994. Stayed in the top 10 for another year or two until he was diagnosed with AID's and forced to retire.

Ten years on he comes back to fight saying he was mis-diagnosed and doesnt have AID's at all. Aussie medical board are going to run stringent test on him before he is licensed to fight in Aus.

10 years out of the game will take the shine off just about anyone.

Still be a good test for Hoppa. A nice easy step up in competition.

Tommy always had a suspect chin. See Tommy Morrison vs Ray Mercer on you tube for one of the most vicious ko's of all time

oh and in other news Joe Wlliams, ex souths halfback, is now 2-0 1ko's in his prof career

He's strung together two good performances. His professional boxing career has already eclipsed his professional football career.

Talipeau fight is on
BY BRAD FORREST

A $20,000 winner-take-all purse is up for grabs for a fight the whole district wants to see: Ryan Waters against Junior Talipeau.

After months of baiting from his rival camp, the Waters' camp finally relented, putting up the offer at a meeting on Sunday in Cronulla Mall.

The night before, Waters the WBO Oriental light middleweight champion easily disposed of Indonesian champ Ade Alfons in the first round at Sutherland United Services Club, before proclaiming if he didn't beat Talipeau he would ``walk down the street backwards, in the nude''.

Former Cronulla Sharks half Barry Russell, Waters' manager, said yesterday the $20,000 purse was about four times the amount Talipeau had fought for in his last bout, last year.

``We are putting up the money through Ryan's company Left Hook Promotions, run by his fiance Cherie, who he will marry this weekend.

``We offered Junior and his trainer a pretty big deal: to fight Ryan at catch-weight [at 71 kilograms, in between Waters' light middleweight division and Talipeau's middleweight division].

``We've given Junior and his camp until Tuesday night to agree to the fight, which will be held at Cronulla Sharks Leagues Club on Friday, May 8.

``They know they won't get a better offer, so if they don't accept we know Junior just really doesn't want to risk getting in the ring with Ryan.''

With the history between both boxers, the all-seat fight would certainly pack out Sharkies Leagues Club, with a big undercard as well.

Two years ago they sparred and trained together, before Waters moved on. Both Australian champions, Talipeau has had problems finding fights at middleweight, while Waters relinquished his national junior middleweight title and has since won overseas titles.

The sniping between the pair escalated late last year, with Talipeau and friends confronting Waters in the car park at a recent Waters' fight-night at Sharkies Leagues Club, where Talipeau offered to fight Waters for nothing, before security intervened.

They had already been banned from attending Waters' fight promotion. Now, instead of a car park brawl, the fight could be for something: no title but the winner taking all.

Hoppa on the walk of fame

JOHN Hopoate's journey to prove himself as a boxer has taken him from the unforgiving Cronulla sandhills to Hollywood.

The ex-NRL player landed in Los Angeles last Sunday in the countdown to his IBA world heavyweight fight next Saturday (AEST) against Oliver McCall.

Declaring he was more focused on business than pleasure, Hopoate allowed himself just three hours on his first trip to the US to sample the sights.

Promising his eight kids back home an album of happy snaps, Hopoate strolled Hollywood's famous Walk of Fame, posing and smiling for the camera.

He joked with the bemused locals, telling them he wasn't a tourist but had arrived to take the world title back to Australia.

But as he watched screaming teenagers wait for the premiere of Terminator 4, the former Test winger had more pressing things on his mind.

"It's probably a good thing, but I'm not a big sightseeing man,'' Hopoate told The Sunday Telegraph from Los Angeles.

"What I really want to go see is where all the black Americans live. I want to go to the ghettos, I'd rather see that than what other people come over to see. It's the different stuff I want to see. Like, I walked past a barber shop the other day ... I've never seen a proper barber shop.

"It was exactly like you see on the movies with guys outside and all the guys inside talking and cussing away. I stood there watching them and listening, I was amazed how good it was.

"But I came here to do a job and that's what I want to do.''

But much of the work for Hopoate's toughest test was done before he left Australia.

He was regularly dragged out of bed at 3.30am by his trainer Dave Millward to transform his body and mind on the sandhills of Cronulla.

Then, 24 hours later, he would be at it again, this time with Millward beating him with kicks and punches as he rolled around the canvas.

Hopoate arrived in the US determined to go where the likes of fellow former rugby league stars Anthony Mundine and Solomon Haumono have failed to go in their boxing careers.

"I'm doing this as much for myself and my family as it is for Australia,'' Hopoate said. "I still struggle with getting my head around that, but I want to put Australia on the map.

"For a heavyweight to do what I am trying to achieve is one thing, but for me, personally, considering where I've come from and being so early in my career, this is massive.''

Unwilling to break his routine of church on Sundays, Hopoate will arrive at a gospel church in Anaheim this morning with a spring in his step.

He had a sparring session against former WBO heavyweight champion Lamon Brewster yesterday.

"I'm shaking with adrenalin after watching Hoppa against Brewster,'' Millward said.

"It was eight rounds of quality. I hate being over-confident, but even Brewster said to him, `Hey boy, you've got some power'.''

What now, Hoppa?

It will be interesting to see what sort of spin the John Hopoate camp put on his second-round loss to Oliver McCall in Las Vegas at the weekend. McCall is 44 and hadn't fought for 19 months, but he is a former world champion and if he was even halfway serious about his preparation he was going to be a huge threat to a former league player who had only fought 13 times. Hopoate went OK in the first round, but as soon as McCall started connecting with Hopoate's head, it was over. Afterwards, Hopoate's trainer-manager, Dave Millward, said his man had paid the price for not following instructions. Presumably, when the Hopoate camp gets home, his people will tell us it was a valuable learning experience and that Hopoate will be much better for it.
