Whilst he wasn’t poor I think he would’ve wanted to have a better game.
Hard to get a definitive or accurate read on his performance. His second stint was definitely more stronger but was that because QLD were starting to be gassed & only had 12 men?
Was his first stint affected by his teammates making errors?
Whether it was tactical or just being overawed but it took a while for him to take his first hit up which I found surprising.
 
To be fair to AFB he didn’t get a chance to make an impact because we kept losing the ball, particularly in his first stint… can’t make any runs or metres in defence and the speed of the qld attack was draining all the big boys

Yep - his overall performance this year too. Every fan shouid watch it.

It’s dumbfounding that journos and fans still cling to the myth of metres being a gauge of performance when coaches say stuff like that.

Do you think it's unfair to say he hasn't been up to his standards this year? I thought even in defence his blues game and last week were up on previous. He's felt more of a force the last few weeks.

Just from the good old eye test, season to date, he hasn’t been as good this season as he was last season. The last few weeks he has looked to be better than previous 8 or so weeks so hopefully he’s now found his groove with how NRL is atm.

if that’s your opinion then it’s not unfair.

If you came to that opinion based on him having less runs, less metres, post contact metres etc. that previous years it is ill-informed.
 
One thing is indisputable- AFB has contributed to Brailey's running game.

Nearly every time Brailey had a big scoot - its off the back of an AFB run. That first try the other night was a prime example.

Not sure if there is a stat for a runner tacking a marker out of play when they get up to play the ball.
 
Irks me some of these commentators. Origins the best/toughest std of RL in the world. Assuming that a FG prop can walk into a new team, and dominate in that highest of high pressure arena, highly unlikely. AFB was more than serviceable, really don't get the negativity on his game last week. Different story/ position for Strange, he got lucky, and unlikely to repeat BTB.

Yeah not based of any stats.

When he's on, you can feel his presence both sides of the ball, and it's usually fairly clear he's the best forward on the park. I don't think I really felt that for the first 10 rounds. At least not as much as last year. Last few weeks more so.

His ruck control in particular lately seems to me to be the most notable improvements.

I have nothing to back any of that though.
