I watched this lead up 4-5 times earlier this week.

This particular type of play (defender rolling off) happens dozens of times in each game. The defence has systems to allow for and adjust to this.

Would I like to have Woods physically dominate NAS, get him on his back, and slow him down? Sure - but he doesn't - so the play there is for him to roll away and not give up a penalty/restart. The unfortunate thing there is that Brailey did it too, and they ended up with no markers.

Grant runs, Nikora reacts late and then falls for a dummy. The try is scored because 1) Nikora retreats with his back turned and isnt' ready, and 2) Uele doesn't move up and/or communicate with Nikora. If those two blokes do their job properly it is a 10m scoot for Grant and nothing more.

Also, for Wizard's benefit. Trindall's defence was garbage in both halves. He was a liability.

Dead set, Trindall's defence was some of the worst I've seen, period. I called him out for it at the time but didn't want to bash the kid. I genuinely didn't want to give him points in the 3-2-1 as a result. It was only that everyone else's games were pretty ordinary and he did have a really good first half with his kicking game (some of his passes were still off target though).

On Woods... yeah, hard to say. There might be some big-pillow bias creeping into my recollection, but with the importance of that game he seemed behind the play a lot and very casual about returning to the defensive line. I don't actually have many gripes about the bloke... might go back and watch the game again now there's no live Sharks action and see. On the rest of the team being ordinary defensively? Not a surprise!

Reply to your own posts that you’ve gone MIA on champ, then and only then might I read your reply on someone else’s behalf. It’s cute though

I'm glad you find being called out for asking a dumb question where you have intentionally ignored half the persons statement cute

I assume you mean this old chestnut?

On your point I still didn’t see anything that suggests Tracey is an ok option at centre. Zzzz

We all know what Tracey is doing well, can you explain what he needs to do better to be an ok option at centre

I don’t think there is anything he can do tbh.. it is what it is, not everyone can play another position. I just hope he’s not first pick at centre next year as he is now, I don’t see what he brings for us there. Maybe he trains and gets better there in the preseason not sure.

I like him at wing because his energy isn’t wasted, he’s quick, has more space usually especially on kick returns, his defence is suss at times worry about him against bigger centres and he doesn’t have to pass if he’s at wing.

Let me flick the question back to you, in the last two games what has he done to say he’s ok there ?

I just think it is what it is champ, that cute enough for you?

Maybe I'd have answered you at the time if your answer to me hadn't opened with it is what it is, given a confusing half arsed response, then tried to throw it back at me.
I remember looking at it and thinking I'm too busy right now to unpack that. Sorry I left you hanging, I didn't realise you needed my response so badly you're still worried about it.

Let's unpack...

I don't think there is anything he can do tbh... it is what it is (not really an answer, you must have an issue with some element of his game there? TBH I pretty much gave up as soon as I read 'it is what it is')
maybe he trains and gets better there in the preseason (ah yeah... so he can be okay there if he gets better there, sure... I agree?)
I like him at wing because his energy isn’t wasted, he’s quick, has more space usually especially on kick returns (so he can't be an okay centre because you like him somewhere else better?)
his defence is suss at times (so better defence is your answer?)
and he doesn’t have to pass if he’s at wing (so you think his passing isn't good enough to be an okay centre?)

So is the concise version of your answer 'he needs to train there more so he can improve his defence and passing and then he could be an okay centre, but you prefer him on the wing. You hope come round 1 we have a better 2nd choice centre than Tracey'?

If so my answer is that I agree with that statement, I definitely think he needs a full offseason and trials there if he is any chance of being a round 1 centre, to improve his combos and defence.
I think the energy he brings he has still been able to show at centre and can be used to our advantage with different looks such as two centres on one side (like Turbo in SOO) and even swapping out to wing at times to create different match ups.
He does bring the ball back well although also takes tough hitups well and isn't afraid to come in from centre to take these runs. Ronnie and Sione also bring the ball back fairly well I don't think Connor is significantly better there.
I'm not terribly excited about him starting at centre but it appears to be our second best option after Ramien currently, and has potential. I don't think he becomes and elite centre but should be able to be an okay one with some practice.
I'd like to see a better option stand out and Tracey be our 14.

I hope you can finally sleep at night, champ

DES CONSIDERS LIFELINE FOR VETERAN PROP

At the moment, Aaron Woods is without a club for next season, but that could change with News Corp reporting Manly coach Des Hasler is considering offering the veteran prop a cut-price two-year deal.

Woods has played over 230 NRL games over stints with the Wests Tigers, Bulldogs and Sharks. He’s represented both the New South Wales and Australia and was named Dally M Prop of the Year in 2015 and 2017.

But the 30-year-old’s time with the Sharks has been mixed and as a result the club hasn’t offered him a new deal.

Hasler signed Woods on a four-year deal at the Bulldogs in 2018, but he ended up leaving just one season into the deal.

It seems Hasler still has some interest in Woods and according to News Corp’s report, the Sea Eagles coach believes the ex-Tigers skipper could teach Manly’s emerging forwards a thing or two.

has Dessie seriously been watching our games?
Another year and Azza will be that much slower.
I like Azz, but his first grade days are coming to a close especially with the faster pace of the game
