Was only a couple of weeks ago the NRL came out and defended the bunker, saying how they get most things right. Nope, of the controversial decisions they're terrible. Was a bad one again last night for sure.

I don’t blame Butler - he did not appoint himself -he has proved time and time again - he is not up to it .
Whoever made the decision to appoint him -that is where the mistake was made ..

I feel the bunker try to find the minute letter of law ruling whe determining g a decision, not a reasonable / probably approach

Look at last night, I reckon 99% of people using common sense would say that there was probably a touch - and would have lived with the decision.

However, since the bunker - with only a minute or two to decide, couldn't verify with 100% certainty it was touched, decided to go back to original decision.

In summary - they need to use a bit more 'eye test' and less CSI approach.

The Toia one?

I reckon the bunker looks at the chase line and if one guy is in front of the others they call him offside. You see chase lines all the time where every guy is more in front of the kicker than he was, but when one guy is half a step ahead of the rest and they ping him no matter what.

That's why Lozza was looking so stunned during the game. He kept asking "Are these same guys I've been training all week. They look different." Of course Madge secretly had the real team next door training while Lozza was running the Casy Maguire/ McQueen fake squad round and round the oval clapping his hands. Brilliant NSW strategy. They looked like a different team to me too.

I called in real time that someone was going to be offside....always is. Qld always thought the rules would never apply in SOO especially not to them.

As much as I think Loz didn't get all his selections right, even in this game, he did use his bench better and he also gained the benefit of NSW not having half a dozen errors to open the game, like in game 1.

I think a fit n healthy Bradman Best would only have a killing it, fit n healthy Latrell to stop him getting jerseys in the future.
Both injury prone though, have to hope at least one healthy at any given time.

I thought that was fine, clear offside, the Bostock touch for NSW runaway try I thought was more contentious than that.

As much as it is nice to be able to say you wish the bunker was more vibe based and reasonable... how could you possibly trust them to get that right any more than by following the letter of the law?
Would you really want the 'eye test' of people who are getting black and white wrong?

They'd still have to review the video a bit to determine the info to make their reasonable common sense decision, so you aren't saving any time.

With a bit of CSI they couldn't determine a certain outcome so they threw it back to the refs vibe/eye test from the live play.
Isn't that pretty much the outcome you were after?

All laughs aside Credit to Loz that he stuck with AFB and figured out how to use him. Moses long kicking game was crucial too. Made the right call not playing Strange. I feel he's probably a bit out of his depth but love to see him humble Super Billy and leave Billy muttering to himself in the coaches box. The emotion he showed afterward was brilliant. I'm sure the team did rally behind Lozza and the **** he was copping and they really stood up as they were always capable of doing and did the job.

90% of the time the fullback just catches that kick and the chaser doesn't come inside ten. We just had a stand in fullback who couldn't get near the ball let alone catch it so onside becomes crucial and reviewable.

Yeah I was OK with that decision. For some reason I thought @Gumby was talking about the Best one, but he did say 'no try' so probably not.

You wouldn't wanna be trying to get every series win off the back of the playing group feeling bad for the coach but hey, worked for now
TBF as much as there are things I can criticise him for, the playing group owed him the win because it was their own awful start in game one, going on to only win by a fluke, that gave Qld all the confidence they needed to roll them when they played poorly again in game two.
This game was by far NSW best performance (aided somewhat by better bench use/selections)

Would have Best and Latrell over Crichton. Guys like Best, Young and Martin are the cornerstones of an Origin team (though I have to admit I thought Martin might have been past it)

I wasn't sure Martin would have the conditioning that was required but we had Ola on the bench so whatever Martin could play would have been fine. In the end with the HIA's Ola missed out, which is disappointing for him. Had a decent 60 minute stint game one then was dropped, and then ended up an unused sub.
And Martin was an absolute defensive menace which would have been the main thing asked of him. Didn't contribute really in the run game but so be it, plenty of stronger ball runners than him were in the side.

Crichton hasn't been the lock down defender good for a game winning intercept for a while, happy for him to be a little further down the depth chart. Not a bad option to call on if guys are injured though.
