2026 State of Origin Discussion.

Jason Bakuya should have played at least a few origin games for QLD. Was robbed off selection multiple times when he was at his peak.
Yeah 100%. That was during the era where if they needed a forward to replace an injured guy for a game or two they would just grab one from the Cowboys or Storm because they were already familiar with the spine guys.

One game they had Hess, Cooper and Glasby all in the team at a time when Bukuya was killing it.

Thought you always loved Hess......

Him being picked over Bukuya was always a big part of my objection. Bukuya was on fire in a team who had just won the comp and were sitting second on the ladder, and Hess was on the cusp of being sent back to Q Cup to improve a few things. Paul Green actually said in an interview that Qld shouldn't pick Hess because even though he had scored some nice tries he was still figuring things out as an NRL player.

I didn't hate Hess as a player. He was just massively over-hyped based on scoring a few close range tries and running over Kane Elgey a dozen times one game, Bukuya was a much better player at the time. It wasn't fair on Hess to be thrown in to State of Origin so soon. I think it hurt his development.

This was around the same time that everyone was losing their mind over Ashley Taylor, Kyle Flanagan and Brodie Croft....

Personally I agree with GUS, the team is not balanced and I think QLD has the stronger side. ...Also NSW lost the moment they selected Laurie as coach

What were his general gripes mate ?
No direct fullback coverage on the bench. Would have to move Crichton or Koula and neither are week to week fullbacks. Would have been fine if Latrell/Turbo was there. Maybe Edwards or Gutho in #19 is slightly better from an injury PoV.

No "real" back rower on the bench. Radley and Murray don't play there week to week. Bit of a stretch. Both players have played there plenty.

Funny that he added "compared to Queensland". They would have to move Hammer (similar to Latrell/Turbo situation) and Cotter almost never plays second row in the NRL. Just rep footy.
