2026 Sharks Discussion

Nikora Williams - it's like we've had a few past and present players step into the Disintegrator-Integrator machine from The Fly and out popped this guy.

That's probably confused you more... his name is made up of a bunch of other Sharks player names past and present.
Needs more "Misi McGoldrick"

Just had a look at the NRL ladder and I've seen our odds to win the GF are now in single figures $8. That puts us just behind Penrith ($2.50) and Roosters ($5). Warriors are on $10.

But can someone tell me why they are still bothering to list odds for those that are now out of contention?
Because fans of those teams are stupid and may well place a bet.
Lol.

I had the exact discussion at lunch today with my Dargons mate saying they are $2001 to win the comp

He also replied that some dopes would still bet on it.

The game against Dragons this weekend, If KL is going to be out with his failed HIA, considering we are only playing against the Dragons, anyone else think it's time to give Gabrael his NRL debut next weekend before Hiroti for a change?

This is not the right attitude when gunning for a top 2 finish. Take nothing for granted, pick the best person for the job. We're not some poxy team that can't make the finals.

The best person for the job and our situation is Hiroti. I’d be very surprised if he’s not named tomorrow.

People should realise that next year doesn’t mean a thing. Who cares if someone is not going to be here then.

You pick your best players, and that’s I’m sure what Fitz will do.

And I’m a big Gabrael fan but unfortunately again the timing is just not right.

I hope the players aren’t taking this game as lightly as you are mate. “Only playing the Dragons.” Hmm.

Mate, it’s a local derby and it doesn’t matter where each team is on the ladder. If they think the way you are at the moment, intensity drops and in this comp if you are 5% off your game, you get beat even if you are playing the team coming last. Attitudes like that don’t win you games or comps so you can bet Fitz will be reminding them all week long about the dangers.

We've been told numerous times that Fitz can't prepare them for the big games.

How has the sledgehammer been playing in NSW Cup?
OK. In and out with the knee injury a bit. Also missed one game with a suspension.

He won't have as long a highlight reel this season, which will be in part because he has missed time but also because he and Niwhai have only played 2 games together on the left edge all season (the first one and last one). That's not to take away from Taj Ford - who is great at attacking short sides and giving MG early ball. The attack is just less "left side heavy" when Niwhai doesn't play, and Ford has also spent time at fullback, the right edge, hooker and on the bench. MG has also been involved in a few shocking bombed tries for himself and others, so the highlight reel would be a bit better if he had iced those moments.

Also Hohepa has barely played this season for the Jets - which further effects the attack.

From the way the coach and other players have talked in interviews it sounds like the big area of improvement needed from MG was yardage and with his contact in defence. He's been solid in those area area, but the older prospects in the team are better. Effort areas like kick chase etc. he is noticeable on, but again so are some others.

Most noticeable thing for me is that he has exclusively played left centre, whereas every other guy has played either side at some point. He will probably be the second-best left centre at the club next season, but as a right centre his experience is limited to a couple of Flegg games in 2024. It doesn't rule him out as being a replacement for Ramien but there have been plenty of opportunities to play Gabrael on the right side and they haven't done it*.

He could certainly do a job in NRL for one week if called on, but has only been back from his most recent injury issue for 3 weeks and the knee is still heavily strapped.

*Dino confirmed on the ET Stand podcast that the Jets team is picked in line with the Sharks' wishes.

I don't even know why there is a betting market for this - is it just the bookies trying to scam punters?

The only way the Dragons could even make the finals is for like 10 teams above them to get done for salary cap rorting and lose all their points
