2026 Sharks Discussion

Time to admit that this side isn’t as good as we thought. Nothing wrong with it, just need to manage expectations now for this season.

Yep. Maybe reaching the Prelim 2 years in a row was their ceiling.
Time will tell. It's a long season. I don't like where the team's at right now though.

I don’t know it’s the ceiling. It’s not like even last year we can’t say they couldn’t have played any better.
Right now we know for a fact almost all of our players could play better.

That’s the tricky bit, if this was the ceiling the easy answer is burn it all down.
When we know the ceiling is much higher we just aren’t reaching it, do you identify and fix the issues, or still burn it down?

I think fitz is in the middle of this decision now. They obviously set a time frame by having so many players come off contract at one time. The other is the fact not many have been resigned. Would be interesting to see what way fitz and mooney head.
With kennedy actually being more physical this year do you think he could transition into a centre? If we can find an upgrade for fullback

There are holes in our side, regardless of injuries, but we do have a roster that's right up there, but the way we play / fitness / game plan / interchange management / clueless defence / brain dead decisions / no leadership / appalling ball handling / weak coach / pour team selection and apparently undroppable players - this has made it impossible for us to get anywhere this season.

What the **** do we do at training?

I think we have the spine, but outside of those and a few others, nothing really special about our roster.

Just we get lucky

Should of kept Royce instead of Hazelton.

Should have Atkinson instead of Trindall.

Royce barely played all last year. We have a version of Royce in BHU and are choosing not to play him. If we were going to keep anyone it should have been Williams.

Atkinson is bang average too. Tricky is the best option till Puru/Pollard grab the jumper or something better becomes available.

Yeah Jack is a good shout.

Pretty **** to be honest, I don't think Andrew Johns would do much either.
I just don’t think it’s fair to judge Atkinson on his playing in the **** show that is the Dragons. They bought him to be the man. They’ve supported him with Kyle Flanagan and an 18 yo kid. That’s not what he would have got from us.

The one positive is I reckon his long kicks have been decent and that’s really all Trindall is offering atm.

No.

Winger, maybe.
Then still no.

He's either an NRL fullback or SL man of steel.

Yeah I don’t see Kennedy playing another position.

Maybe chuck him at 6 if there was an injury in fam as we had started carrying Ison on the bench or something be about as close as I could get to putting him in another position

One of the things I've been thinking about over the weekend is how to get the most out of our forwards given how fast-paced the game is being played right now. How mobile we need to be to keep up with other teams.

8 AFB

9 Brailey

10 Colquhoun

11 Talakai

12 Wilton

13 McInnes/Puru

I would move Colquhoun into the prop position. Replacing Toby. Toby has been playing well. However, I think he would be great coming off the bench. I would have players shadow both AFB and Jesse because they love an offload.

Talakai is one of our most destructive players. Having him start on an edge could be a good thing. The more he’s on the field, the more dangerous we are.

McInnes or Puru at 13. McInnes is our best captain, so let Brailey do his thing without the extra responsibility. Puru could also be an option as another creative player.

Hazelton isn’t suited to this type of game currently—he’s too slow and lumbering. Kaufusi is too hot and cold for me. Maybe Burns could move into the middle.

14 Rudolph

15 Kaufusi

16 Nikora

17 Burns

18 Jones

19 McCulloch

To be honest Atkinson is one of those players that everyone blew their load about cause he had one great game against the Storm two years ago.

He isn't bad but he isn't great, Trindall and Hynes are quality, they are our future, just not confident they are coached well. Nor our attacking is suited to them.
